Hi there everyone! Can anyone advise me on the best way to lay a base for my new shed that will be arriving in the next couple of weeks. I've been told shingle with paving slabs on top is a good idea, Is it? Also how would you fix it to stop it blowing over in high winds?

What I did for my shed was to squirrel some 6" x 2" roofing joists that were thrown out from a loft conversion. Laid some down 2' apart them laid the rest close together like floorboards on top. Nice and sturdy, portable but robust enough to permit the shed to be nailed to them. Took less time than laying concrete and the price was right.
See if you can get 4 pallets
lots of places give them away. thats what we did. If you go for the blue ones there very heavy.. they wont blow over.....
B&Q, tescos, sainsburys staples etc all places that will give away pallets..

Ive got a 6x4 shed which is standing on 4x 3-2` paving slabs (which you can either scroung, or I think B&Q do them for about £3 each). I just laid the slabs level(ish) on a mixture of sand and soil and plonked the shed on top ;D
About 3 days later it had blown over onto its side! >:(

Stood it back up and hammered wooden posts into each corner and sides, screwing them through the shed walls into the uprights. The reason I screwed then 3/4's of the way up the walls is that if you only secure them to the base at the wind gets up your floor could remain in place but the walls still blow of! :o

Be carefull of using the blue (CHEP) pallets, I think they may be under contract with companies. so there may be some legal thing.
