Anyone else a Potter fan?
I wonder what it is like being in Stephan Fry's shoes right now? He must know how the story continues and how it all ends. Oooh I'm dying to find out!
Is Prof Snape is a good guy or bad? Who meets their final end? Did Dumbledore really die?? Where is his brother? What happened to Sirius Black? Hmmm, what is it with Percy? I'm suspicious about that chap!
Anyone got any interesting theories?
I've got the book on preorder and also the audio cd. I'll not be tuning into tv/radio etc until I've listened to Stephan Fry telling the tale.
Looking really forward to the next film. Taking my Potter mad son. Big bag of sweets and a big drink of pop and we will be made up!
;D
Hiya Heldi, I'm a total harry potter fan too, and so is my sister, we can't wait for the new book!!! But I must have missed something, what's Stephen Fry got to do with things?
I'm thinking Snape's a baddie, cos of what happens in the half blood prince (won't say unless someone hasn't read it yet ;) )
We're going to the book store at midnight as soon as it comes on sale - did it the last coule of times too - the assistants dressed up once and everything!
You've reminded me that i need to re-read them all so i'm ready for when the new book does come out ;D ;D
thats a good idea any excuse is a good un i say :-* i,v got a set of my own now
i borrowed my g/daughters the first time and got one all wet when i fell asleep in the bath :'(
marg
I think they come into the category of rattling good yarns! I've thoroughly enjoyed all the books and the films. I'm a bit worried about the final volume though. Could be a bit too final if you know what I mean.
I love going to buy the book at midnight, it is like a big party, we get there about 10.30 and the store brings out hot chocolate for the people queueing. Everyone is excited and lots of people dress up.
Sadly I am going away on the Friday this year so will miss it. :( My daughter will be going though and will not sleep until she has read it. Last time she just sat on the floor outside the shop reading as soon as she got her book and it was hard to get her to the car, she is so addicted. I think there might be a few tears this time if the rumours are true... :'(
Not convinced that Snape is a baddie, but think I am in a minority....
Don't think I will be queueing up for it, but nothing will be done for a day or so whilst I read it! ;D
Oooh I'm so pleased to find some fellow Potter fans!
Stephan Fry reads all the Harry Potter on audio. He is a real treat to listen to. I'm guessing he will have recorded the audio by now. What a secret to have to keep to himself eh?! I wonder how many times he gets asked about it?!
About Snape. Dumbledore had such faith in him. He could've killed Harry in the Blood Prince but he didn't. I reckon he will come good.
I 'm wondering if Dumbledore's brother will turn up some how?
I live too far away from a book store to camp out. It certainly sounds like a good laugh. I love the thought of people being all dressed up. Great fun!
Blimey marg ...be careful! Falling asleep in the bath!
Do you really think that Harry will be killed off? I hope not. My son has grown his hair and even chosen HP style specs to wear. Crikey I'd better brace myself for a big upset. He is busy reading Order of the Phoenix at th moment. Amazing how those books have managed to get him reading. I know he discusses the books with his friends in class and I think that is brilliant for 8 and 9 year olds.
Tulippa will you be asking your daughter what happens or will you ask her to keep quiet until you've read it?! I'm really worried that I'll turn the tv on or see a newspaper or such like and end up finding out about it. Think I'll have to lock all the doors, pull the plug on the phone and turn off the leccy that weekend lol! Candlelight will add to the atmosphere anyway :D
I have read all the books, but only once. My wife is a fan however, and has read them several times. She has the latest book on order, I guess I will read it at some point.
She has suggested I read the Bartemaus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, so I am taking the first book with me to Spain. I expect to have plenty of reading time in the sun with a glass (or litre) of sangria ... ;D
My ten year old daughter loves Harry Potter, and so do I.
But as she cannot read them in English yet, we'll have to wait till Christmas for the Dutch translation. (Guess what she'll find under the tree?)
In the meantime I have to refrain from reading the original. She will pester me for half a year when she knows I read the last volume.
And now I have to stay away from this thread, otherwise you are not able to discuss the plot. I join you in december. Enjoy the book and the movie.
I quite enjoy childrens books as there usualy very well written.
I think harry potter will die and i think it will happen when he kills good old vordy, there to tightly linked that there can not be any other option.
The other books i enjoy are artimis fowl and the young james bond books.
I enjoyed the first four books, but not the last two. The earlier ones had charm and delightfully imaginative details. The more recent ones seem too contrived and self-consciously "dark". Not to mention over-long. They would have been much better for some bold editing. I doubt if I'll bother to read the last one, I'm afraid I've lost interest.
Cor you ain't half brave!!! :o :o

I agree. I loved the first 2 (in fact I read the first one before Harry Potter became a publishing phenomenon), but I didn't think the 3rd one was as good and gave up halfway through the fourth one. I'm reading the 1st one to my daughter now; the opening chapter is refreshingly funny.
artimis foul is like that i can be reading it and then start howling with laughter :-) not done that with HP in a while although i think i have shed a tear or 2.
I've only read them the once in quick succession, borrowed off a true fan in work (she reads the whole series just before the new one comes out - but then so do most of you probably). Must admit to having to wait for her to read this one before I can, if I'm going to buy them I'll have to wait to win the lottery, buy the hardback adult box set and the kiddies paperback box set. Can't do the films, send me to sleep. Really disturbed me when Dumbledore died, I quite enjoy the dark side but don't want it to get too dark. I do love a happy ending and get quite distraught if I don't get one.
and breath .............
;D
Hi Heldi...I love Harry Potter - a real ripping yarn. Me and Maya soooo excited about the new book. She is only 8 but flew through the first 2 and has been working her way through the others. She informed me the other day that she HAD to have the new book on the day it came out and I HAD to take her all dressed up. So that's what we're doing. Can't wait. ;D
I have many theories, probably all wrong. I have a gut feeling DD's story not quite finished a la Gandalf. JK is very clever the way she has taken age old folk tales and legends and twisted them to fit. my littlest noticed the connection with the story of the elves and the shoemaker - they are given clothes and are free. Clever!
I don't believe that they are that well written, but being aimed at children means that you can rip through them pretty quick. I shall probably take the new one camping with me as it doesn't take much effort to read, and besides, I want to see if it really does end up being a rip off of Star Wars (Harry=Luke, Dumbledor=Obe Wan, Snape=Darth - will Harry turn him away from the Dark Side in the end, etc) ;)
But never mind my reservations, as the series has got so many kids back into reading I have to applaud them.

Yes that is deadicated i only read the previous book but they only take a few days to read but i want to watch the film as well :-)
I LOVE the Harry Potter books ;D
I do agree that the last couple have been too long - lots of repeats of 'scenarios' that are OK but dilute the whole thing eg. baddies versus goodies in the Quidditch matches, school exams etc.
Still an enoyable read though! It's been so long since the last one I'm going to have to read it again to brush up.
Had a very Harry Potteresque dream last night, in which (or witch) I could fly. Sometimes I practice at the weekends by jumping of the allotment shed roof. I'll get the hang of it eventually ;)
Just ordered the new one from Tesco Direct- 8.87 with free postage for today only. Felt a bit bad because I know the price war is bad for small booksellers, but couldn't resist at that price! Have a feeling it will be a disappointment, though, they have got less good as they've gone on.
That happens all too often, unfortunately. The author pulls the stops out to get the first one accepted by a publisher, then either gets lazy and self-indulgent, or runs out of ideas and just runs on the name for a bit.
It's my big fear that there will be a mad dash to the finish.
I don't see why Harry should die. From the very start we have had death, with him being an orphan. It is a book for children and a magical book in that, so why must he die?
When you read the books again ...keep an eye on Percy. He doesn't really ever come back to the fold...he could be a chink that Voldermort could use? Or maybe he will save Harry in a last second reevaluation of his loyalties?!
Afterall Harry is the boy who lived!
And all things aside...I've been put in the Griffindor's by the sorting hat. Result!
http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/
I agree heldi. I hope it doesn't happen, but i feel that harry will have to sacrifice himself to kill voldemort. Hope i'm wrong!
Will watch out for percy then - thanks for the tip off ;) I'm gonna re-read from goblet of fire onwards (read the others so many times!).
Where's the sorting hat game tho? x
someone give me a 5 line precis of the last book please.
can't remember a d**n thing and won't have time to read it again before the end of July.
cheers muchly.
:P
Funnily enough, I've just started re-reading it, because I can't remember a thing about it either!! ???
I love Harry Potter too! Although I agree that the last two books have been missing some of the funny touches of the others.
I like that JK makes sure nothing gets leaked and love the buzz that is created before the launch of each book. Then it's a race with all the potter fans I know to see who gets to the end first, and lots of cautious conversations "have you got to the bit where....." trying not to spoil it for the other person but dying to discuss! Then I have to read again a while later, coz I gobbled it up in a few days and need to read again slowly. (sad aren't I :P)
I read a while ago on one of the websites a list of rumours that JK has confirmed or denied - v interesting, so hunted it out.
Here it is from 'mugglenet.com'
Before each Harry Potter book comes out, there are always people who will try to turn theories they've concocted into fact, or even those who will simply create rumors for the fun of it. Currently, there are a few rumors about Book 7 and below you can find the ones which JKR has debunked.
Character Information
* Dumbledore is really dead. He is not in hiding and is not coming back.
* There will be no character named "Icicle," and JKR said she didn't recall saying there ever would be.
* Dumbledore is not related to Harry
* . Harry is not related to Voldemort, and he is not related to Salazar Slytherin.
* Lily Potter is not alive.
* Lily was not a Death Eater
* Crookshanks is not an Animagus.
* Neville is not Peter Pettigrew's son.
* Remus Lupin does not have a twin brother.
* Petunia is not a Squib.
* Dumbledore is not Harry/Ron from the future.
* Mrs. Norris/Crookshanks is not an Animagus.
Plot Information
* Harry will not become Minister of Magic.
* Peter Pettigrew’s silver hand will not kill Lupin.
* Lupin will not return as a DADA professor.
* The prophecy refers to Harry, and not in any way to Neville.
* The final part of the prophecy does not mean Harry has to kill Neville, or vice versa
Other
* The title of the book will not be "Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Furmat."
* No prequel books (books that take place before Harry's time at Hogwarts) are planned.
* "Keeper of the Keys" has no secret meaning.
* The Sorting Hat is not a horcrux
:)
I was wondering if Snape was anything to do with the prophecy and if his actions in HP6 mean he has created a horscrux of his own? And having read HP6 again last week it looks like Harry may not even be in school this year at all - possibly he will be off searching for horscruxes instead. Hmmmmmm
MrsKP I will pm you with HP6 details so it doesn't spoil it for others
I can't remember a thing about Book 6 either. Don't remember what a horcrux is and don't care.
What about the rumour that she fired her editor after Book 4 and continued without one? Explains a lot if true.
Oh dear, Calamity's list has ruined my day. I was sure Dumbledore could not be dead. What will become of us??
Heldi - thanks for this thread. I will also be camped outside the bookstore, and shuffling into the film next week, mildly conscious that I don't have a child to accompany me.
Rotten raspberries...I typed a long reply and then lost it! Hate it when that happens.
Kitten sorry! I'd had a few sherries when I posted that link! Look at the time I posted it anorl...am I sad or wot!
I think you click on Harry Potter's Pensieve and the sorting hat quiz is on the left. When I click on it now it recognises me by the the name I entered the other night so I guess that is where I was!
Calamity ..thanks for all that.Brill!
I am still holding out for a return of Dumbledore...I don't believe JRK ! Yes he may well be dead but forever?! When there are those at Hogwarts who still believe in him??!!
No worries, i'll be off there again shortly to try the pensieve thing - can't wait to see which house i get put in - not slytherin, not slytherin, not slytherin ;)
Re dumbledore - do you think the clue's in the phoenix he used to have (self combusted & then regenerated each year a la dr who styleee)?
It's all so exciting!!!
Ooooh I don't know now kitten. I watched Goblet of Fire last night and thought "Oh no!" when Dumbledore says to Harry that there is no spell powerful enough to bring back the dead. :(
The Phoenix could be a good clue though couldn't it. It belongs to Dumbeldore and is linked to Harry and to You Know Who via their wands.
Oh no I want DD to be alive!! The thing is he may not be 'dead'. In most stories with wizards they seem to go through a process where if they die or seem to they come out stronger, kind of wizard evolution? I hope that happens. But if she says he's not coming back... :(
I would say it's anyones guess what is going to happen. It's wide open... ;D
My son and I went to see the new film last night. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it is the best one yet. Obviously lots of the book is missing but in this case that is no bad thing really. The film is still about three hours long. My son was on the edge of his seat thoughout and I have to say my eyes didn't stray from the screen either.
;D
Oooooh Heldi, I'm jealous!! I'm taking the eldest girls at the weekend, youngest is getting Shrek 3. Why is the cinema so expensive these days? :(
I know. Then there is the obligatory snacks. I'm going to take my own next time. Saw a consumer programme a little while back...it isn't actually against most cinema's policies to take your own food...they just don't like it because they want you to buy theirs.
My OH and the Toot were supposed to see Shrek3 whilst me and my son were doing The Pottering. Unfortunatly it was cancelled so they ended up spending some of the time in Pizza Hut lol!
You and your daughter are in for a treat Emmy. It's a rolicking good wizarding jaunt !
Eeeek! I can't wait!!! I'm taking her to book shop up the road to get her copy (which I will read when she is asleep!). It's the night beore my birthday too so will be fun. ;D
Oh brilliant! throw yourself a Potter Party !
Hmmm, good idea. :D
BTW - what ARE sock suspenders all about and do they go all the way up to the thigh?
Beats me Emmy :D
I'd forgotten that was there!
seen the film last night having re-read book 5 beforehand and there is tons cut out. The film is good i would give it 7 out of 10.
I am re-reading book 6 before book 7 comes out.
fun fun fun
I guess I need to get the last book out and give it a re-read...................was not too impressed with the last 2 (too long and waffley and just not up to scratch), and this comes from an ex- avid Harry Potter fan, wicked mother who buys the book for her children, stays up all night to read it, then gives it to them the next day.......that way if i get there first, they can't tell me the plot! hehehehehe
Hopefully this new book will re awaken my admiration for JK and the way she can write for all to enjoy!
We are off to see the film tonight, I reread the Half Blood Prince, and OOTP in preparation!
We had a massive HP party for our daughters 9th birthday (now 5 years ago!), the kids at her school still talk about it...we did go a bit OTT.............
I dressed up as Professor McGonnagall, I had some yellow 'cats eye' contact lenses that totally freaked the kids out! OH was Hagrid (he is of suitably demi-giant proportions) complete with big beard, we had a magician for entertainment who went along with the theme and I was surprised the kids were so enthralled! We spent ages painting 'house' banners to decorate the living room, hung net lights on the ceiling to make a magical atmosphere, and I made a 'Hogworts express' train birthday cake.
We 'sorted' the kids into houses (via a sorting hat of course) for team games as they arrived, they all dressed up as well, lots of interesting Quidditch type gear on the boys! They had to get their 'lucky dip' present from a bucket of 'maggots' (cooked pasta in vegetable oil).you should have heard the screams! The parents coming to pick the kids up thought we were nuts, but we all had a great laugh.....I'll try and sort out a few pics to scan in, didn't have a digital camera then.....
I’m a massive Harry Potter fan â€" and proud!
Went to see the latest film last night, it’s good but they can never match up to the books!
I’ve been renovating my house over the past few months and Stephen Fry’s readings of the books have helped keep me sane through the weeks and weeks of diy!
Sad enough to be really looking forward to the next book, and even sad enough to be queuing up at midnight to pick it up!
I’m not really into all the theories and sub-plots that other people are coming up with, but I think it’s great that some people are â€" I love enthusiasm for anything like that!
Saw the film last night, as others have said, a lot missed out compared to the books, but enjoyable never the less.
Here are a few pics of the HP party we had in 2002.....
A bit dark, but you can see the banners quite well...

OH as Hagrid with a Hermione..
Not sure what he came as....but seem to be enjoying themselves!
Me in the middle, (complete with 'cats eyes') two witches and a 'Monsters Inc' monster!

Deb that party looks like it was soooo cool !
Found this to play with...

agreed!
I saw it tonight and thought they did a great job of fitting a 700 page book into just over 2 hours. I particularly liked the way they used the newspaper reports throughout the film to add in details about stuff they clearly couldn't fit in to the "storyline" of the film.
Heldi!! Love that game! Had it fioxed for ages (room of requirement) and apparently am part of the wizengamot. Hee hee.
I ordered the new book way back in Feb. Recieved an email yesterday letting me know it is due to arrive on Saturday. Woo hoo! To think that so many people will have already read it and be discussing the final outcome before I've got my bum out of bed is really funny. My son can't believe people will be reading it whilst he is fast asleep!
Have the audio on order but it won't be arriving until after Saturday. Would I be able to prevent myself from finding out what happens until it arrives???!!!
Did you see JKR on Jonathan Ross a fortnight ago? She said there is a bloodbath...eeek!
Read a rumour that Dudley turns out to be a wizard...there is supposed to be someone who unexpectantly has powers ..but Dudders?!!
Me too emmy! I stumped it with the Wumping Willow! Might have another go now. ;D
I will have the book 1/3 finished by then!
I plan on sleeping in friday and then going to get it at midnight.
I did toy with the idea of pre-ordering but i usualy sleep though the post man on say at 8am :(
ooh good lots of potter fans me too me too, i got sorted into gryffindor too, was anyone put anywhere else? Dumbledores brother ? Snape or Voldermort, I think Snape will come good dont think Harry will die too obvious as for Percy I too have my suspicions. cant wait was gonna go to the shop at midnight but as were going on hols on sat am at 7.30 will need some sleep so will buy it on the way up somewhere and not let anyone see it till I have read it lol
anyone worked out who R.A.B is yet??
Nooooooo. So annoying.
Help! R.A.B.??? ??? Give me a context please.
I used to live near Edinburgh and I used to go to the central Library with my youngest son in a pushchair and afterwards I quite often went to the nearest Cafe for a coffee. I used to sometimes see the same woman there with a child in a pushchair asleep while she was engrossed in writing. You notice other Mum's with children about the same age. Now I know who it was.
My son the one in the pushchair got cross when he started Year 3 at his new school as they were calling him names! It turned out he was being called 'Harry Potter' because of his resemblance to the film version of Harry. On book days at primary school it was easy to choose a character to dress up as....not much costume was needed.
He even has his own scar above his eye...in slightly the wrong place and the result of a school playground accident. A problem with a fast growing mop of hair. He caused quite a stir when we went to the first film. He's had to 'sign' autographs at school. He's at secondary school now and some of the kids still call him Harry though he now wears rectangle-shaped glasses has longer hair and is into heavy metal.
There will be a big fight for the book on Saturday morning, three of us usually try to read it at the same time or when someone puts it down someone else takes over. Tim aka Harry saw the film on Sunday a friends birthday treat but he has wisely not told us how it was.
At the end of Half Blood Prince when Dumbledore has died and Harry has realised that the locket he and DD had gone to get was not a horcrux (vessel in which to store bits of your soul, used by Voldemort and made when you murder someone. When you kill someone you lose a piece of your soul and a horcrux is a way of keeping it for future use) he opens it and finds a note to Voldemort (goes to get book...finds page...aha!) which says: I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more.
R.A.B.
I have been through everyone I can think of to no avail. All will be revealed very soooooon!
Having just re-read the OOTP, I kept a lookout for anyone with anything like those initials....when Sirius is looking at his family tree and explaining it to Harry, he mentions his brother Regulus who had the initials RB but is now dead (mabey?)....don't know his middle name! Could it be another member of the Black family?
I also wonder if it's Harry's aunt Petunia who can do magic, she is Lily's sister after all..?
Lilly was muggle born and magic does not always follow.
I am convinced that RAB is not a black, but i think it might be a group or more likly Borgin and Burkes They run the magical curiosity shop. And i only remember one being mentioned in the books. Maybe they feel guilty given Voldi got his first job there?
I understand from today's BBC news that someone has uploaded the latest book onto the web.
a link would have been good there Amazin. :P
Oh yay - I'm in Gryffindor too. Was actually worried that it wouldn't be! I need help. :P
Once you've been sorted you can go get your wand. Mine is mahogany (wanted willow) and unicorn hair. ;D
Here's the link again: http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/
I've read a post by someone who reckons they've read that. They gave away a lot of what is supposed to happen. I stopped reading it and went on to read the replies he received. Seems a lot of people have already read it and they all said they did not believe it was the real deal. They said it was a hoax that has arrived from America. I'm not telling you where that post is either :P You won't be able to help yourself from looking and it could potentially spoil your enjoyment. That person who posted it is being labeled a spoiler and is being shunned !
Don't ask me either because I have forgotten ...brain like a sieve me. Still can't remember what my theory was...maybe by tomorrow it might all come back..in a blinding flash...that happens to be green...or something ;D
Kea loved your story. Fancy you being there when HP was being written. Magic! If only you had known...sneaky look over her shoulder hee hee!
I am thinking Regulus too.
Do you think Sirius will come back? What about that mirror he gave to Harry? It hasn't been mentioned again has it.
Hogwarts school motto Never tickle a sleeping dragon. Stephan Fry made a point of mentioning that. Draco - dragon. Is Hogwarts the dragon? Does Hogwarts have powers?
Emmy I love the shoes ;D !
I've forgotten what my wand is. I'll have to go back lol!

PMSL ! ;D ;D I've signed it LMAO !!!!!! ;D ;D ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D
Hee hee - signed!!
I think it could be Regalus Black too as he is supposed to be a bit of a good guy. ??? ???
I had loads of theories on the others too and I think the only ones I got right were Neville being significant and that Sirius would die. She's a hard woman old JK.
Heldi - Looove these shoes. My sister sent me the pic with the message - Happy Birthday!
Miss my little garden girl though. Shoes will be relegated to myspace eventually!

MrsKP,
A quick peruse of Google indicated to me that it could well be possible to get the "work".
One apparently, would need a BitTorrent client and be looking for something similar to
"Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.pdf"
Now, I would not know how to do such a thing - so don't ask ( but I'm told *its very straight forward* ! )
or wait until - is it fri midnight ?
As to whether or not the "work" is final/draft/hoax no idea

ooh, don't think i registered before, will have to go and have another look. where's the sorting hat ?? :P
Click on the Marauder's map, then click on castle grounds, then sorting hat. If you click on off grounds you can get to Olivander's wand shop.
I'm going to see the film tonight, Can't wait!
ha ! I got sorted again and was Gryffindor again, so it must be right.
Got some god awful huge bloody wand, can't control the thing for love nor money. going to go back and see if i can change it for another one roflmao
Dragon's Heart cedar this time, still a huge one. Rubbish. ;D

MrsKP,
A quick peruse of Google indicated to me that it could well be possible to get the "work".
Riffster
Bit torrents scare me. I'll just have to wait to get back to work on Monday and borrow my mate's copy, she'll have read it by then.
;D
dragon heartstring on ash 7 inches
slytherin :P
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
;)
hay better then the huffy puffs :-) thats what i was last time i did this.
I like the wand though!
Re: RAB
My two experts.....read books over and over! .....say they don't know who RAB is but another surname in book (don't ask me where!) being with 'B' is Bellatrix.
Oooh, loads of theories flying around eh? I'm purposely not looking at any of the links etc incase I accidentally come across anything that's in the next book - I hate knowing the ending!!! :D
Well, i've re-read Goblet, Order of Phoenix, and am now half way through Half Bood Prince, and am beginning to wonder about Dumbledore, whether he's such a goody at all? I'm convinced there's a connection between him & Voldemore?
If anyone is going to end up with magical powers that we don't expect - I'm putting money on Aunt Petunia ;) x
i got dragon heartstring and ash 71/2 inches
I have heard people say that RAB was Regulus Arcturus Black, but it cant be him as Harry would not have been able to inherit the house and Kreacher.
OK being dumb here ... why not?
MAGIC
Ahhhhh
Don't believe a word Anne...Louise....she's in Slytherin y'know! Trying to betwix and betwiddle yer!
maybe I am and maybe not, the truth is a broken mirror which can cut :-)
asda is selling the book for a fiver ::)
The bbc gave the game away this morning when they broadcast the news that a help centre is being set up to help people who are likely to be traumatised by the death of a major charactor.
Get real! There are real life dramas that need to be addressed that are more important than pandering to these socially inadequate types. The same sort of people that send xmas cards to coronation street charactors.
Still, The more they hype it up, the more silly buggers get sucked in.

I have heard people say that RAB was Regulus Arcturus Black, but it cant be him as Harry would not have been able to inherit the house and Kreacher.
Sirius left everything to Harry in his will - that's why Harry inherits the house. In book 6 Dumbledore takes Harry to the house to see Kreacher and whether Kreacher obeys his commands. Kreacher does which means that Harry is the true owner of the house. If he wasn't the house would have gone to Bellatrix as the next nearest relative.
RAB could be Regulus anyway because he expected to be dead when someone read the note in the false horacux thing so if he was dead wouldn't inherit the house!
Think i read the books too much!
I think it's Regalus Black because we don't know when the original horcrux was taken from the cave. Also when they were clearing out Grimwauld Place they found a heavy locket that none of them could open. I think that is the missing Horcrux that Regalus took and hid in the house.
I re-read all the books in the few days before the film and I wished it hadn't as it totally ruined the film for me. I was totally aware of the bits they left out and I think some of them should have been included - like the gold status helping Harry and Dumbledore in the fight! I also wanted to see the brain attacking Ron at the Ministry of Magic.
So in the last book I think:
Neville will be a BIG character
Ginny will be too as she is already proving to be a powerful witch and her love for Harry will make him stronger.
Snape is a goodie
Malfoy will realise that the dark side is a mistake and will come good.
Harry won't die - unless he has to die in order to kill Voldemort.
Just my thoughts! :D

intresting - agree about the locket in the house, neville & ginny
not sure about malfoy or harry!
disagree about snape
cambourne7
Snape is a master at preventing people reading his mind - he was teaching Harry to do it so he could be using that skill (begins with an o but i cant think how to spell it!) to prevent Voldermort from seeing whose side on. Dumbledore had a reason to trust him so I think he may well turn out to be a 'good' guy. Not long to go till we all know the answers!
no snape is bad, he could have just pretended to kill dumbeldore but no he killed him.
Occumalcy was how he was hiding as a goody when he was a baddy
I disagree. Snape HAD to kill Dumbledore, he had no choice and Dumbledore knew that - which is why he said "please Snape", because he knew Snape didn't want to do it and knew he had to make him do it. Snape made the unbreakable vow with Malfoy's mother that he would carry out Malfoy's task if Malfoy couldn't do it. Both Snape and Dumbledore knew that if Snape backed out then Voldemort would know Snape was against him and he'd be killed a.s.a.p. This way Voldemort still thinks Snape is on his side... ;D
no i am sticking to my guns i dont like snape!
( That said i am curently wrapped up on sofa with blanket, hot waterbottle and dosed on cold flu stuff so brain is not on full power)
I am going back to bed to sleep on it.
I dont like Snape either just think Dumbledore wasnt easily fooled!
Hope you feel Better soon Cambourne...

i think we should agree that were not going to post anything till sunday so people have a chance to read the book - what do you think??
Can anyone translate the latin clue?

My wife is getting the book tomorrow, but I will not be reading it until I go on holiday in 3 weeks time. No one in my family will give clues away, so as to spoil my enjoyment of the final tale, but I may need to desist from this site if discussion of the plot is going to take place.
On other sites, spoilers (as the posts are known) are given sensitive treatment, eg a header to indicate the possible spoiling content, and many blank lines so the text is scrolled off the bottom of the page. The reader can then make a decision before proceeding. This is done voluntarily, but is expected for collective benefit.
Just a comment, but may be of benefit to others.
I will highlight this post to Dan, in case he considers it a worthwhile idea.
Drago dormiens numquam titillandus? =never wake up the sleeping dragon?
never tickle a sleeping dragon. School motto.
ACE did you ever have a crush on someone when you were a kid? It's the same for many children who have grown up with these charactors isn't it? I saw children in tears tonight because they are leaving their first school,so attached to that building and the people working there. Those same emotional and thoughtful kids are just as attached to the stories they read...it's just they get some acknowledgment for it now. I don't think that is such a bad thing. I have seen my own son, who wasn't old enough when the first books arrived to pay any attention to them ,become totally engrossed in the books and the charactors. Harry Potter helped him deal with having to wear specs. Harry Potter has made him interested in reading,Harry Potter as got him playing chess . He will feel a huge sense of loss when his favourite charactors go. For the moment they are real to him and it makes him imagine and think and wonder. Lucky for him I am here to help him ,to talk to him and not dismiss his feelings. Some children won't have that.
Now if any adults ring the helpline....hmmmm.
I agree Heldi. I saw the Childline bit on the news last night about a helpline, and they recognise the attachment children get to characters in books and the potential upset they may have when the finale approaches. I wasn't sure it was letting the cat out of the bag though, the were emphasising how just the end of a series can be upsetting rather than the 'deaths' of major characters, especially when there has developed such a ritual around the book launch with kids queuing and dressing up etc.
I'm up early, still not back in normal sleep pattern after nights, full of cold, and have been dreaming about the new book! It should arrive this morning..... ;D
Book hasn't arrived here either .
I still can't make my mind up whether to read it or wait until next week when the audio should arrive. Will I be strong enough not to take a peek ? ;D
Hope you feel lots better Deb.
d**n Amazon - my book STILL isn't here!
Fortunately we went to Tesco at midnight and got a copy. I read it until 2:30 then slept and read again from 7 - 10. Finished now. ;D
Blimey smiley, i got mine at midnight, read til 3.30am then slept til about half 9, been reading since and am only on chapter 12 or 13 :o Not going into the other thread til i've read it all ;) ;D ;D
Mine arrived in the post at 9:00am.. eldest son has read it, we went to the film as a distraction... now younger son has it ... may get it tomorrow pm...
;D
Got the book about 07.30, up to page 349 at the moment between naps!
I'm quite impressed so far...!
Having to fight to keep the kids from trying to read the end!! ;D ;D
went to waterstones last night to get my book qued from 11.30 to 1.40, when i left there was easly enough people to wait for another 3 hours!! The police even turned up to help the security guards keep order!!!
Read 81 pages before i fell asleep and woke up feeling like death.
I have got to page 311, with the aid of cold flu stuff and some naps :-)
Why put yourself through all that? I just don't get it. ???
I nipped out to do a bit of shopping this afternoon, plenty of shops selling it, stacks of copies everywhere. I didn't buy it, but if I had, I'd probably be well on the way to finishing it by now.
the girl at the checkout in Tescos tonight was very sorry for herself. She said she'd finished the book ??? It was more a -what am I going to do next sorryness, rather than an - oh my God they're all dead sorryness by the way. I said if she said anything else i'd have to kill her, and I gave up after book 4.
Half way through mine (bought at woolies this AM) Youngest saw it and immediately turned to the back pages! >:( >:( Said I was stressy as I was screaming at her, "I don't want to know, i don't want to know"! :o ;D
The girl at woolies said it was amazing how many people had walked in, read the last few pages and put the book back on the shelf!
I am hoping JK anticipated this and has put a spell on them all! ;) ;D
Right off to bed with Harry....he gets everywhere, was in the bath with me earlier! ::) ::)
mine arrived at 9 am. Postie said "I think this is yours." I said "Yes it's Harry Potter" "Oh I see!" ,he says," You'll be staying in all day then!"
I showed it to my son and then I put it way up a height on the book shelf lol! I'm waiting for Stephan Fry. ;D
Anyway. I don't know if how many of you know...my m-i-l has lung cancer...her cat of 13 years went out about a fortnight ago and has not ever come back. She is devastated. We went to the cat & dog shelter today and have found our very own Cruikshank! We had to take him into the cuddle room to see if he is compatible with the children as obviously we will be taking him on when m-i-l dies. We hope to pick him up tomorrow ;D ;D
My son picked it up in Tesco on our way back from the lotties yesterday so I've read it now. Cancelled my order with Amazon which has not arrived although still giving the 21st July as expected date of delivery.
I enjoyed the book. No more meantime.
Finished it this morn.............better than the last 2!!
Mind you at 2am this morning me eyes were going a bit squiffy! :o
Now no one I know has read it, so no one to discuss it with! :(
Got it yesterday Doris, be with you soon!!!!
Ohhhhhhhh then we can go to the other thread! ;D
how about we all meet at the chat room on wednesday and have a chat this way anyone who does not want to hear can miss it and we will not be posting spolers for people still reading?
Who can make 8pm?
See, I just don't get it. Me and Harry Potter never happened.
thats what i told the policeman when he found me in bed with harry saturday night :-)
Audio came this morning. I've not opened it. I am currently going through the other audios and am only up to PoA. Might catch up with you lot sometime next month :D ..unless I say stuff it and dive into the new one. OOooohh I can't wait!
EJ I wasn't into HP when it first came out. I became intrigued when I noticed a mum sitting engrossed in a HP book in the cafe in IKEA whilst her children were messing about and were quite lively. Their antics seemed to be going over her head and I thought "I could do with some of that!" ;D ;D
We got the cat yesterday...for OH's m-i-l. He is a beauty. We gave her the option of calling him Cruikshanks or Ron lol! He is now officially called Ron!
sounds sweet ;-) i hope MIL like it.
wow this is sweet
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hereford/worcs/6912783.stm
Well done that bloke! ;D
Aaaaw that is so sweet, hurray for the postie! Wonder if he is a Potter fan too?!
Still haven't opened mine. Have one more disc of PoAz to listen to but OH has nicked it ! I want to listen to HBP and then I will start on the new one. Going to skip books 4 and 5 as they are still pretty clear in my mind.
Tell you something...listening to the discs helps me to wiz through the ironing lol! (I hate ironing)
Who are your fav. charactors? Without giving the game away as to who gets bumped off in the last one!
Professor Lupin I like lots. The twins and Ron are so funny so they have been a big hit. I loved Mad-Eye Mooney in OotP and was really annoyed that it wasn't really him but one of Lord V's cronies. "Constant vigilance! You have got to hear Stephan Fry doing his charactor- it is brilliant!
Apparently the lad who plays Draco,Tom Felton, has bought a Ferrari and the lad who plays Ron,Rupert Grint, has bought...and ice-cream van lol!! 8) 8) ;D
Ron the cat has settled in well :)
got mine yesterday well in to it now. did put it down to weed my cabbage patch
and cook a couple of meals OH came home and expects me to talk to him!!!!!
be fair
marg :-X
Hmmm - Fav characters? I do love Luna - her radish earrings crack me up, those and the crumple horned snorcak. Maya loves Ginny Weasley and I love the twins. I also like the sound of Bill Weasley - I wonder who they'll get to play him. Think I'd be a sucker for a dragon handler if I lived in the wizarding world!!
I love the dialogue between Harry and Kreacher in the last few books too. Aaagh - too many characters to choose from. ;D
Emma. I was beginning to think I was the only member on A4A who has never read or wanted to read Harry Potter ;D Thank goodness Joshua just isn't interested ;D
Did you all meet in chat????
Lorna.
I think that's for Wednesday Lorna?
DO NOT CLICK THE FOLLOWING LINK IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK!

Ha ha haaa! That is great! You gotta love these people - they must have a lot of spare time but thank god they do it. The internet world would be pretty dry place without them. Praise be. ;D
