Title: School flooded again!!
Post by: Jeannine on June 25, 2007, 10:29:31
I went to work this morning and the building had to be evacuated by 9.30.This is the second time in 2 weeks this has happened.

The first time we lost thousands and thousands of £s of  equipment and carpets etc when the sewers backed up and flooded us, they were just in the process of relaying them when the floods have got us again.

Fingers crossed that the sewers don't come over this time but it looks very likely.

Roads around me are badly flooded in places too, wherever there is  a dip. I made it home by going steadily through the water but it was coming in the edge of the car door.

Some idiot raced through going the other way covering my car, then stalled his,I have to admit I muttered, serves you right.

So another day at home, can't go tot he lottie as it is still underwater.

Time to think of doing the decorating.

Big job as I am switching my bedroom with my sewing room so tons of wardrobes, bookcases, desks etc to move from one room to another.

New skirting board to put in both rooms and both rooms to be decorated.

Aw Jeannine, I'm really sorry. You aren't half going through the mill just now. Still I'm well impressed with your decorating plans. Where do you get the energy? And why are you swopping the rooms over?

Must say Jeannine, when you said you were going back today I thought it might be a bad day, given the forecast and what it's like here. At least it's looking better for the rest of the week:

Hope things soon get back to normal for you and the school.

Feel so sorry for all who are affected by the disastrous weather. Luckily my lottie is on a slope so flooding isn't a problem. But that said, daughter couldn't go to the horse show yesterday because of the rain so we went to the local village fayre but that was a total wash out as well !!!! Despite the weather it was very well supported and the good news is that it wasn't raining in the village pub !!!!!

You've really been having a bad time of it. Hopefully there is an end (even if it's temporary) in sight.

We are swapping rooms beacuse I nedd a bigger sewing room /study ,my bedroom furniture will fit in the smaller room if I downsize the bed, it will be snug but will go. The bigger room  which will them become my sewing room will be much more useful XX Jeannine

:) we are having the same problems Jeannine,

Lincolnshire has a severe weather warning,

torrential rain here again and gale force winds, main roads under water, trees down, schools closed

fire brigade cannot take any more calls, and they have nowhere to  pump the water they are trying to remove,

houses and lotties flooded,

our garden is a swimming pool everyday, our road is flooded, the River Witham  is at the bottom of our street and is dangerously high, the river also runs at the back of my lottie which is situated on a flood plane ; ::) ::):( who says you can't have it all ;D ;D ;D

all the best Jeannine,

from a very wet and soggy, Angle Shades  :-*

Have just been speaking to a roofing contractor in Hull (finally got one to answer the phone!) and he said "We're just about drowning here in Hull!" It's pretty foul here, but we live at the top of a hill and our lottie is also at the top of a slope too, so we're counting our blessings.

I just got a call from our head to say the flood is worse than last week.

It flooded the KS1 block and my Parents block but didn't get high enough to get into the KS2 building or our admin block last week. Now  it  has. So my office  which I share with the deputy head is flooded along with the heads office, the reception and admin office and the staff room.

School is closed tomorrow, the electricity etc has been turned off,the high school about 1/4 mile away is also closed and many houses around that area are flooded. 2 of the main roads are closed.

The rain is still torrential.

John is trying to get to the post office but the road is flooded around us.

Jeannine,

Are you ok?

Do you think your house is in danger of being flooded??

I kep watching the water around me but so far we are OK, it is about 2/1/2 feet from our  back door but the lat couple of feet are sloping in our favour then there is a high step, so I don't think we will are in much danger of it getting in that way

I am  worried that if it reaches the house wall it may seep in somehow though.

Fingers crossed.

Right now, my thoughts are more with the family of the man that dies, who would expect it eh.

HI jeannine, i've asked dan to edit/delete my post above as it now seems bad taste... I really thought they would save him... but 3 hours in the water - even the rescuers were close to hypothermia!
