Oh no!

Is it re-layable 'click-lock' stuff? *fingers crossed*

Oh Tim, what a disappointment for you and your wife, hope it can be put right without too much hassle. Have the people who carried out the work given an explanation?  Like other I love the room.

My OH is a carpenter and does a lot of repairs in similar situations....I'm guessing either not enough of an expansion gap was left, or there is water involved somewhere.......... :-\

If it's any consolation, when OH laid our lovely oak floor years ago, my then 5 year old daughter was playing with her little brother and dragged him in a cardboard box diagonally across the boards.............and there were staples sticking out from the bottom of it.....the air was distinctly indigo for a while....... ::)

Oh Tim, what a shame, can you get the people back to sort it out?  So sorry to see your beautiful floor like that.  You will appreciate it all the more when it is finished... ;)

Gap was allowed for - but, since we don't have central heating, it was not enough.

After cutting out another 15mm today on one wall edge, this is how it shrunk away from its previous borders.

Lesson there somewhere?

Tim. I've played with wood for more years than I can remember and I'm 99% sure that the wood used for your floor was stored outside. Maybe under cover but still 'exposed'. It should have been brought indoors to 'settle' before being cut to size and used for interior work. I hope you got re-embursed sufficiently. I wood demand it.
