Tuinman, you are definitely bragging. Another beauty.
Well done.
We had our first picking yesterday. They are the striato d'italia from Franchi - stripey ones. We've got 10 plants altogether, so should be in for a good season :P :P :P
Looking better than mine. :(
And mine. ;D ;D ;D
a couple more days of this rain and it'll be marrow sized :o :o
Overnight, more likely?
Ten plants? That could well be 600 fruit?? How many can you eat in a day? ? ?
We like them. So do our friends and neighbours. Also the flower fried in batter are a delicacy. :P :P :P :P :P :P
Picked our first yellow courgette today, and our 6th green Parthenon! Not a glut yet, but there is still a long courgette season infront of us.
Im a too just awaiting my first courgette.
I see small flowers forming on some of the plants but on one (the smallest plant) the flower was quite large and then shrunk, now there is a small yellow ball behind it.
Thats the courgette right!!??
Dont ask me the variety, I was given them as a gift in return for runner beans.
Is there any trick to getting the fruit to come on? It seems to have stayed static in size the last week. The weather has been mild temp but windy and very wet.
I apply organic (these are organically grown) fertilizer to the roots.
Am I missing anything?
Thanks a million!
I did have one but it rotted. Still I can wait

Oh that sound good, your making me hungry!
I have around 5 Paradors growing, just need to swell up a tad
Gutted, I had a nice looking courgette on my plant on Tuesday, went down today and it had gone!!
:-[ mine are tiny compared with that - hope the sun shines soon.
We are in the glut season already - courgette soup, courgette dollops, creamed courgette, courgette cake................!
We have Jack be Little pumpkins
XX Jeannine
Lots of courgies already eaten & more growing nicely but none of my jack be littles have set - yet.
Jeannine! That is the cutest thing. :)
I'm growing JBL this year but I'm way behind you.
my first one is forming and growing nicely at the lottie (when there yesterday) but will be a few days before it's big enough to pick!
picked my first 'broadies' yesterday - late getting them in (they're the dwarf ones) but loads more coming on!.....guess what's on the lunch menu tomorrow :P
H.P.
my flowers on my courgettes are just really taking off and boy are they big, watch this space
I have 6 plants growing but only a single courgette is ready. Can I expect lots more to come soon? Also my pumpkin plants have lots of flowers on but the pumpkins just rot as soon as they appear ???
BB, once they start there will be no stopping them, don't worry! I picked five little ones yesterday- very pleased with myself for catching them before they grew big!
The tiny pumpkins may have rotted because they were not pollinated. Not a lot of bees around in this weather! Hopefully the next flowers will get pollinated, or you could try hand pollinating.
I was delighted to get my first courgettes on the 7th June. They were not my usual variety, but Longue de Nice which I expected to be late.

I took one look at your face smiling and one look at your courgette! ;D
i'm having a real problem this year, all the fruits have not quite got to picking size but then rotted from the flower end. Not a single one has survived so far.
Pollination is a problem this year because of the weather, I think yours are not getting pollinated like loads of mine though I have had quite a few many others are just going to mush. First patty-pan appears to have set. :)
OO
;D ;D ;D
We are in courgette glut mode also. Picked another 3 today.

Love the Jack be Little Jeannine. I tend to ignore all of my other squashes, leaving them until late summer. I pay much more attention to my cucumbers, melons and courgies at this time of year.
I've had about 25lbs so far this year! All chopped up and frozen, or eaten on the day. Mmmmm sliced and sauteed in a little butter. :D
That's a lot of courgies early in the season - Do you blanch them before freezing? What are they like after? never done it but might try this year.

We did blanch them but with the way my plants keep producing it will be autumn before we have to defrost any!
I've still not got any ready to pick - I've found that the continued rain has ruined a lot of the flowers, they've gone brown, shrivelled & dropped off but did manage to hand pollinate a lovely flower head yesterday so keeping fingers crossed!
I chop or slice courgettes & never blanch - they're fine! or make them into a mix of onions, tomatoes & courgette once I've plenty of everything, freeze that too, it's lovely.
