Title: Upsetting
Post by: debjay on June 21, 2007, 07:00:16
Hi
Well it looks like the allotment shop on our site was subject to arson >:(

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/yorknews/display.var.1483467.0.hunt_for_yobs_after_allotments_fire.php

It was a great shop for all your lottie needs, a place to meet other plot holders and ask for advice.
I hope they will rebuild it (with bobby traps!) as there is a lot of older plot holders on our site who may struggle to get to the nearest (and most expensive) garden centre. There was also a lot of none plot holders who were members losing out.
Why cant they just leave things alone  :-\ Or go play with trains on the railway line behind the site :-X

That looks really awful. I really feel for you. Such a shame that we can't just get on with it quietly without the yobs trying to spoil our enjoyment.

How sick!

If only they could be made to reinstate everything - and meet up with the folk that their action has so gravely affected.

Once again - blame the parents.

How about what Tim suggested? Get the b**gers back and get them to put it all back the way it was. And meet the people they've upset.

Sometimes I think it's a good thing we have no facilities of any kind at our site- nothing to attract the vandals. Really sorry to hear about this.

They need stringing up by the thumbnails and then set fire to them.

Like everyone else really sorry to hear about the fire. Arson is a terrible thing, don't these morons understand that when firemen are attending their stupid act that other people's lives could be in danger if firemen couldn't attend fires elsewhere.
What a shame, so many people were benefitting from the shop and now that has been taken away from them.

Sorry to hear about the loss. As my mother always says, may you grow up and have kids like yourselves. Hope the arsonists do!!  >:(

Oh dear, I ma so sorry to hear about this, there are no pearls of wisdom, just I am sorry for you all.

Sadly kids are roaming around at 4 pm,  I have often wondered why there is no police curfew on teenagers, there is in the area we lived in Canada. Police can stop kids after the curfew time and if they have a bona fide reason to be out and parents confirm that on being contacted they are let go, if not they are taken home.  It seems to work very well and the kids don't seem to mind it. If course once that are no longer minors it ceases.

Once they are no longer minors they'd be working or at college/university with less time and energy for roaming around in packs looking for mischief to get up to.

Commiserations from me too.

May I suggest that if you (or your commitee) are considering rebuilding, that you do so with non-flammable materials? Concrete block walls, Metal sheet roof, and metal doors, with no windows.
Maybe you could get donations of materials from your local builders merchants.

Glad for you debjay that it will be restored but the concerns remain the same. Maybe .... oops I was about to say "maybe if we all contact our MPs" then I remembered Manor Allotments. No wonder young folk turn to terrorism.

No I didn't really say that. I am a sentient human being....
