Title: mantis power trouble
Post by: biffabear on June 19, 2007, 20:37:00
Anybody had their mantis 2 stroke  losing power ? . It started up ok but sounded a bit laboured , dug well for about 10 mins then the tines struggled to rotate . The air filter is fairly clean , the fuel is 6/7 weeks old ,
Before I spend frustrating hours on it does anyone have a suggestion ?

I had similar problems with the strimmer I used last weekend.  At times it would slow to almost a halt.

I found the solution to be the choke setting.  Even when the engine was warm I needed the choke half open.  When I closed it the thing stopped!  It ran a bit rich, but at least it worked.

Another question (maybe an obvious point but worth an ask), is it one of those with an oil tank for the 2 stroke oil, or one where you mix the oil at 25:1 in the petrol?  If the latter, have you added the oil?

Hope you can get it sorted.

Another obvious question; is there anything wound around the tine shafts? I found when rotovating in some manure early this year loads of nylon 'threads' form old silage bags etc, which wound themselves around the inside of the tine shaft and slowed things down, ivy roots have done the same thing too but are more obvious..... :-\

ahhh i found that a couple of months ago... no idea as i have the 4stroke option.

To be honest it depends on what you are digging. Now OH has gone i might buy a bigger vator!
