Didn't know what section to put this in but freeezing garlic can it be done as soon as you have picked it and does it lose it taste??
Thanks :)
You don't need to freeze it. You're better to plait it:

If you want to freeze it for convenience of use I would probably mash it up like a purée first then freeze it in an ice cube tray before bagging in cubes.
Others may well have better ideas. ;)
I have it frozen from fresh for emergencies & it serves its purpose.
I chop or mince some of it up and store it in olive oil in a jar in the fridge.
I freeze mine because the bulbs are usually rotten with the dreaded white rot so it won't keep for more than a few days. I mince it in my blitzer and freeze in icecube trays. Works fine for me! ;D
Ok thanks. One variety i grew says it doesn't keep well so I thought if I freeze some it would last longer instead of it going to waste. I did read a post that someone freezes whole cloves so I thought I would ask.

good idea that!! Some of ours is going this way i think...
bet you never get vampires in your kitchen when you are doing that though.... must be pretty potent! ;D
Yes, Rosy - although nothing can compete with the real thing!
Thanks for that site grawc - I must admit I was just about to start doing some research to see how to plait them. I suppose you could do the same with onions?
Jitterbug
I don't know jitterbug. I usually plait my onions with a bit of help from string, but there'll be someone who knows. I was amazed at how easy it was to plait garlic following those instructions.
Sorry I clicked the wrong button. Here we are now.
