Title: garlic
Post by: norfolklass on June 18, 2007, 14:23:04
just had an email from T&M offering free postage on garlic orders to arrive in Oct.
http://potatoes.thompson-morgan.com/list/autumn-planting-garlic?OC=7618

haven't grown garlic before, so was wondering which varieties other peeps would recommend, or are they all much of a muchness?

the four varieties offered are:
Albigensian Wight
Early Wight
Purple Wight
, and
Wight Cristo

thanks! ;D

I haven't grown any of the varieties so I can't really help but I heard Cristo is a very good variety for storing. I decided to plant Cristo this autumn but will buy bulbs from my local garden centre in the autumn. I saw packets of 3 huge bulbs for 2.99 per packet last year, much cheaper than T&M.

Do shop around before you decide to order, as T&M might not be the cheapest place to buy from.

For example Dobies has Solent Wight and Purple Wight. 2 bulbs for 3.45, postage free. :)

I've grown Purple Wight this year.  Got huge bulbs from Dobies.  My bulbs are nowhere near that size, but it seems it wasn't the best year for garlic.  They are really attractive now that they have been cleaned up:
