Hi All,first time here so please be gentle!I need a bit of help with identifying a ?beetle. My next door neighbour had just started playing his drums,so i went outside to have a listen. As I was standing at the front door, our front lawn was buzzing, looking down I saw loads of insects emerging from holes in the lawn & flying off.I managed to take a couple of pics, not the best photographer though!Heres one,

At a guess I'd say about 18-20mm long by about 8-9mm wide.Any help most appreciated.
Could it be this one?

In Dutch these are called 'Maybeetles', so it would be a bit late for them now?

Hi dandelion, thanks for the quick reply. No, I don't think it's that. The colour & shape are different, told you I was a poor photograper! These seemed to have distinctive stripes running down their backs.
:) summer chafer? /shades x
I think I owe Dandelion an apology! I have spent most of the evening looking at different sites & pictures.I'm now convinced your verdict was correct in it being a melontha melontha. We call it a maybug, the only thing that I can think of that has delayed its emergence is the weird weather conditions.
So first of all,(http://www.fogboundworkshop.co.uk/antiqueforum/Smileys/new/sorry.gif) & most of all,
