Self blanching or to earth up?-I`ve never tried it but in theory it should be possible

Last year I chose a self-blanching variety.  I used one 12" pot per plant in a 50:50 JI no2 and compost mix with organic chicken pellets added.  I watered every day unless there had been sufficient rain and it was very successful.  I'm doing the same again this year and my plants are about a foot tall at the moment.
