Title: How resilient are seeds?
Post by: caroline7758 on June 16, 2007, 11:03:57
We sowed quite a lot of seed at the start of this week, before the deluge- carrots, swede and various herbs, without any protection. After two solid days of heavy rain, should we assume they will have been washed away and start again?

Really depends on the amount of water flowing across the soil. Some people have had it bad with river-like water taking seeds, plants and soil away. If you had a heck of a lot of rain, enough to flood the area, I would guess that if your seeds are still there, they're all over the place, not where you sowed them!
Carrot seed is so fine I would imagine you will have lost them. Play safe, for the price of a packet of carrot seed you will at least be sure you have seed in the ground....and where you want it!
