Title: Garlic harvest - I've got bulbils!
Post by: miniroots on June 13, 2007, 07:36:16
I was going to leave my garlic until I get back from holiday next week - but then I noticed that I had bulbils forming on one of my Albigensian Wight!  Like you see on those funny 'walking onions'.

I lifted it immediately and found that the outer skin  of the main bulb was starting to rot a little - should I lift the rest immediately?  What do people think?

Anyone else got bulbils?

I had them on my Albigensian last year, I think they're quite normal on this variety.

If you have somewhere you can hang them to dry while you are away I'd lift the rest to be on the safe side..

I pulled one of mine, italian red garlic (Abruzzo) and the cloves didn't form and was starting to rot. I've left the others for now.

the bulbils are like an extra set of bulbs sprouting out of the stem! It looks pretty weird...
If I had a photo I'd post it...
