Title: Update on my manic life!
Post by: Mrs Ava on June 11, 2007, 22:40:39
Honestly, I am close to becoming an emotional wreck!  I am trying to post a bit more but time is still always against me.  Latest update on stuff.  Number one daughter had a hospital appointment today about her pyrogenic granuloma which won't stop growing.  The plastic surgeon (which son thought very funny.....a rubbery doctor) saw her and decided that the best course of action is to operate, so remove the granuloma and some surrounding tissue to hopefully put an end to it.  Means a general anasthetic, which I am not crazy about for her, but it will be a lot less traumatic than doing it under local.  Bless her.  She is being so brave about it.

My lovely motorbiker hub was supposed to join us at the hospital, but just before we left home the phone rang and it was him to say he had been involved in an accident.  He is okay, quite bruised and shaken.  A car decided to do a U turn without looking and he ended up pinned between the bike and the car and then the bike.  Fortunately, because of the typically slow moving London traffic, my love was only doing about 20 mph.  Anyhow, plenty of witnesses and the insurance are already on the case.  It meant he missed her appointment, but he got home safely - the bike, a Fireblade, didn't suffer to much damage.

Mum will be arriving next Tuesday ready for me to go under the knife on Wednesday.  Am getting very nervous.  Never had an op before.  Eek.  Am trying to get the house sorted and some cooking done so that when I am recouperating, I don't have to worry about what I should be cooking everyone.  Should be a case of just getting something out of the freezer.

And I am working every day until my op!  Honestly, I don't know if I am coming or going.

Stop or you will meet yourself coming back, plan a night for tomorrow latish.

Bath, hot, bubbles,no lights just candles, and your favourite relaxing music playing in there, glass of wine in the bath, and if he will a soapy toe massage fro OH.

Guaranteed to settle you down I promise.

Think about the positive OH is not hurt, daughter will be fixed soon, Mum is coming to look after her baby.

You need to find a couple of good books to take in with you and some needlework if you do it, and have someone at home know to bring you some favourte foods in to combat the junk, you can tell them yiu only eat organic foods by the way.

If you are nervous in the hospital, tell them, here in Hull we have a couple of nurses who go with you right into the OR and then they are there for you when you come round, it is very non stressful now.I had me last surgery witha spinal block which was better as I was fully awake and had no sickness after.

We will be thinking about you, XX With Love XX Jeannine

It sounds as though it's all happening at once Emma. Jeannine is right. Just stop and give yourself time and space.

Poor Mark will be bruised but he'll recover. Your Mum is on her way and the children will love having her about just as much as she'll love looking after them. You'll be OK too and number 1 daughter. She'll feel so much better once her op is over and so will you.

Just remember how much you want it done and how restricted you've been. Soon that will be behind you and you can get on with living. If things get neglected for a few weeks it's not the end of the world. Look at me - plots untouched since April, grass in the garden a foot high!!!

You're very much in my thoughts. Please try not to stress. Zen chill would be good for you right now.
Hugs
Anne

Good luck Emma.

Some people are just so impatient - on way back from school, we stopped at the road (barriers either side) so we could let cars cross. A woman with pushchair and 2 other children in tow was trying to push us into the road because we were waiting patiently for the cars to go and she was in a "hurry". Then she barged my leg with the pushchair when I stopped to pick up a coin that had fallen out of my pocket.

Oh ej, you've got it all going on haven't you?  Do as Jeannine says (she's our cyber mum I reckon  ;) ) and treat yourself to a relaxing night, and do try not to be nervous - think of all the good times to come with no restrictions and pain.

Thinking of you tomorrow for the op, will have fingers crossed  :-*

Emma. Best wishes from me, so glad Mark wasn't badly hurt  It will be lovely when you are without pain, just do as they advise you and take things easy.
Of course you will worry about your daughter but I am sure she will be in safe hands. Few more weeks and hopefully you can put this all behind you. Good luck on all counts.

Next week.  Next week. Sorry, I am so keen and terrified to have the op done I wasn't clear in my posting.  Mum arrives next Tuesday for me to go in on the Wednesday - so the 20th.  I am trying to be relaxed about it....famous last words.  Picked another 3Ib of strawbs on the plot today and am wondering how on earth I am going to pick ripe berries after the op!  Seems like the kids will have to....which means none reaching home!  Oh well, a small price to pay.  Don't worry, I will keep you all posted and what, when, why and how.  Thanks for all of the support.  It does help.  ;D

Emma, focus on the end point, when you are all fixed and no longer hurting, it will all be worth it.  Just the wrong time of year perhaps, but there is never a good time of year in gardening, always a pile of jobs to do...

You will be able to sit back and watch Wimbledon and catch up on other things that you can do sitting down - browse lots of gardening catalogues/books etc, plan next years rotation etc.  Then you will be more up to date on that later in the year.  Just enjoy your Mum coming to look after you and being pampered for a few days.  You will soon feel better.  I am a fine one to talk, I am sure I would feel the same as you.  Good luck and take care, x

At times like this Emma you just have to learn to delegate. Of course things won't get done in the way that you do them but think how fortunate you are to have a good husband and a helpful Mom. Just chill out cos getting all wound up isn't going to make things any different. Go with the flow girl.lol

Emma, when I had my op last June 5th,I started doing cross stich.I practised for a week or two before because I knew I would have to sit down and that doesn't come easy to me.At first it drove me daft, but after a few days I stsrted to enjoy it and couldn't put it down. It did the trick for me, I became quite engrossed in it and stayed sat down.

Actually I think I should do some more... I could do with a rest.

Other sit down jobs, geneology, very addictive, seed surfing, tons of sites.Planning next years garden on graph paper.Cataloging all your seeds, looking up info about the variety on the net, very useful.

And as Shirlton said ,delegate..

Jeannine - did the Surgeon do cross stitch too??

Emma - how the hell did I miss all this?  Mark? No1 Son has been hospitalised 3 times because of damage on his PUSH bike in London. No2 Daughter once. Much sympathy.

General anaesthetic? Truly no problem. SO easy. I've had at least 4 & they're a blessing.

Poor girl.

Tim , I don't know about the stitches he used but he whistled all through the op, 90 minutes of Beautiful Dreamer was too much for me so I  turned up the volume on my  CD mini player(ear plugged of course) and listened to the music from Sleepless in Seattle over and over.

My kids were all Caesarean births. No 1 son they told me I had my dates wrong (I didn't) and left me almost a month past his due date. Labour for a long long time then general anaesthetic then op. He was eleven and a half pounds. I'm 5'1" and before the pregnancy weighed in at seven and a half stone. Yet despite the obvious that there was no way a wee perrson was giving birth to a huge baby they did all manner of tests to find out what had gone wrong. Billy suggers. Oh btw Tim - no stitches just clips ;)

No 2 was epidural (spinal anaesthetic) as was no 3. I won't bore you with why (think NHS). I was wanting to do the natural birthing thing at the time.

I laughed at the intricate tenting they provide to ensure you can't see what they are doing, given that the lightshades were mirror-like and I could see absolutely everythingreflected in the rounded lightshades.

Anyway after reminiscing let me point out that I'm still here and none of all that was traumatic at all.

I also had a general anaesthetic for a D&C (period problems during menopause) and that was no big deal but then my darling Peter was there every minute he was allowed and whisked me back home to VIP treatment.

Hi Emma, Haven't been on the board for a while, due to the pressure of life at the moment.  Had to stir myself when I saw your post and get cracking on here again.

So sorry to hear about Mark's accident, but just thank God he was alright. Some drivers just don't look out for motorcyclists and don't realise how vulnerable they are.

Poor number one daughter, but it sounds as though she is in very good hands, and she sounds as though she is a real star at coping.

We will all be thinking of you when you are wheeled into the op room, so you won't be alone in spirit, we will be here cheering you on.  As others have said just concentrate on the end result as it will make such a difference to you, and just think how long you have waited for this to happen. So good it is nearly here, and will soon be over with.

I just bet you are a good healer, and you will find before to long you will be as good as new.  Bet you will find lots to do in the meantime.  Your much loved on this board so we are all thinking of you. busy_lizzie xxx  :-*

Great minds think alike so they say, I was waiting till this evening to send a message too.

I shall be thinking for you tomorrow Emma and looking forward to your first post when you are back, take care, and don't eat the hospital's lime jelly, it is disgusting. I think they sit and laugh in the kitchen at the poor souls who have been on nil by mouth and would eat anything. They run a book on it too, I am convinced to see who eats it first. Don't you blooming encourage them, refuse it with dignity!!!

Hurry on back.

XXXXX Jeannine

As soon as I am up and able, I will post and let you know how I am doing.  Thanks for all the cyber wishes, keep the coming tomorrow afternoon.  ;D
