Bought a rose a couple of years ago. The first year it had loads of flowers, last year just three late on and this year up till now none at all. It's growing well and healthily, and has been fed and sprayed along with all my others which are flowering but there are still no signs of any flower buds. Any suggestions?
Hello
I have 50 roses in my garden i have a few witch are behind in flowering some roses have a quite year they might flower later on the weather we had recently doesn't help blazing hot and then rain and very cold and now warm it upsets some variety's of rose long as it looks healthy i wouldn't worry it might make up for it later.
What's the name of the rose i will have a look for you.
My silver jubilee is miles behind my other roses but looks healthy did speak to philip harkness at Chelsea and he adviced not to worry.

Thanks, Brog. It's St Cecilia from David Austin. Advice from a garden designer friend was to whip it out and plant something else there instead :-\
Hello
That's a bit drastic it well recover i have a rose simular to your which is queen mother and it's only just budding so bear with really it's up to you but if you get another rose you can't just replace it as you might get rose sickness but you do get another rose and dig a hole and place a cardboard box in hole and then plant the rose this will stop sickness i have done this in my garden.
Cheers

Wow, never knew there was a way around not planting a rose in place of a rose, so to speak. Thanks, again. I was so disappointed last year with the 3 late flowers when all around had been blooming since May. I think I'll wait and see this season and if nothing happens will think of alternatives. It has lots of new healthy growth on it but still no signs of a bud - I've just been out to check :'(
Hello
Just keep a eye on it and see how it goes it might suprise you, In oct/nov give a light prune and see what happens next year.
As i said i planted silver jubilee last year and flowered well and this year it's not doing nothing only in the last 2 weeks it's just getting some leaves i will leave it and see what happens.
Cheers

Have you been feeding it? It may be growing too well if you have. If so stop feeding and next year it should be much better.
Is it by any chance a climber or rambler? If so dont let it head skywards. Lay the long stems more horizontal and they will send up shoots and produce more flowers. Another method is to spiral the growth up the thing you are growing it up.
ipt8, no, it's not a climber or rambler - just a shrub. It's been fed the same as the two roses either side, both of which have flowered and are still flowering with more buds on the way. It's just contrary and will find itself homeless unless it bucks up its ideas ;D
