Over the last three weeks i have noticed alot of movement and holes (big) being dug, one has now been chosen and am sure that i now have some badgers, they have earthed up an area 1 metre square outside the hole, so, there is nothing i can do about this, BUT, today have noticed loads of dead bumble bees outside the hole and alot of bees flying around the hole..... what should i do. BTW they do look like the big bumble bee, not the skinny type.
How starnge Tilts. I've no idea about the bees. Maybe you should post in kept animals. Some of the lovely beekeepers might know as it may be unrelated to the badgers - ie bee disease!
It may well be that the badgers had broken into the bumblebees' nest to steal and eat the larvae (valuable protein). The dead bees would have been trying to defend their colony. Hopeless: like attacking a tank with hatpins.
Very fond of badgers but, oh, poor bumblebees.
Badgers regularly dig out bumblenee nests, so that's probably it.
