Title: Tomatoes
Post by: lilybetbee on June 09, 2007, 10:41:58
:) First ones finally ripened this week, they seem to have taken forever to change colour!
Only 3 fruits so far but the 6th trusses are setting so hopefully they should get going now.

Noticed this evening that one of my Latah toms, which is outside is just beginning to turn colour.

Living in chilly, wet Wales, I am impressed ;D

I found the first tiny green tomato today & I was all excited - didn't realise other people were getting theirs ripe already.   :(

None of mine in the greenhouse are even vaguely changing colour. It is only the one variety, which are supposed to be very early and cold tolerant.

The ones I'm eating are sungold, i was recommended these for early fruit and good flavour.

Sounds like you lot are doing really well in your cold climes!! All of my outdoors have unripe fruit, cherokee green, striped cavern and the plums are in the lead! BUT I was out doing some side shootin the other day and noticed that we had ripe sungold, 42 days and back cherries!! wow they taste good! can't wiat for the othres to ripen up!
PS we've been scoffing the greenhouse toms that were moved outside a month ago in their pots, but boring varieties though.

I have a few toms on the tumbler but only just set the first truss on one of the Sungold plants in the greenhouse.

Had to move them about a bit as the Sungold are large plants.

Flossie, it is only the Tumbler that I get early, they are shortest season I know,I always plant a couple really early and baby them,we usually have fruit by the last week in May, this year we are a week late. The flavour is not outstanding but it is pretty good and holds us till the others come along. Sometimes I have planted one really late and brought it in as a hanging plant as the green tomatoes are forming,it does OK for quite some time. XX Jeannine

Just had a wade through the triffid house this morning and decided I have FAR too much in there so going to have a shift about tonight.

The Supersprout Pineapples are all in individual boxes so they're coming outside.

Nothing is set as yet and I've found a couple of trusses that haven't set and I'm worried.   :-[
