Title: long shot .
Post by: tig on June 05, 2004, 22:25:35
just bought a really nice plant which was the last one in the garden centre and unfortunately the label was missing. the young fellow working there gave me this name (labertia gladifolia) which he said may not be spelt exactly right but was the name of the plant. it is like a grassy plant with a variagated leaf  . long leaves like a crocosmia and stems with a white flower . (just cant seem to find it anywhere).

Libertia grandiflora. Rather a nice plant too, a little bit on the tender side for us here, but it grew very nicely in out old town garden.

If it is Libertia and I am not absolutely sure because I have never seen a variegated one, it will grow in well drained good slightly acid soil in dappled shade or sun. It should have three petalled white flowers on 40 to 60cm stems in Summer. Mulch in Winter with bark or such like to protect the roots from extreme cold if you live in a cold area.
