I have 2 calabrese in my greenhouse. They are huge plants, and the head on one is about 6 inches across. I have never grown them before, so have no idea when they are ready. I dont want to pick them before they are a good size, but dont know when they will flower.
Any ideas?
Thanks
cj :)
Caroline if they are six inches across,I would be picking them now,they may get a little bigger,watch them carefully though.Once picked they will probably side shoot and you will get more.

And certainly cut them well before the buds start to open.

That looks great. Did you grow it in a pot in the greenhouse?
No, it was straight in the ground. I didnt realise how big the plants got though, so it is a bit of a squeeze to get in the door now!
The bed is about 3 ft wide. Originally, I planted 3 plants in a row. I was really miffed when I accidentally hoed the middle one off. I'm glad now though, as the remaining 2 are a bit close. there is absolutely no room for a third.
You live and learn ::)

That looks beautiful... They're not that brilliant green in the shops...
When did you sow?
Wow caroline, it's a stunner :o ;D When did you sow them? x
Just checked my notes. I sowed them on 13th February. I see I have added a note saying I read that calabrese dont transplant well, and not to do it again. I will now cross that out!!!
