Whay spacing would you suggest on a 3 sisters bed? ???
(Sweetcorn, Runners and squash)
....Squash may have to end up being replaced by courgette actually....as none of my squash seeds have germinated :'(.
Also ....is it too late to try sowing more squash? ???
Thanks
Hi
For a 10ft bed i would in the centre have 3 1ft deep holes at equal paces down the middle and back fill the hole with well rotted horse manure and compost on top.
1ft from the edge of the hole either side you will plant your beans and then 2-3 inches away plant the sweetcorn ( or the other way around ).
Thats certainly what i did last year.
The pumpkins will run from the hole out of the bed so you might want to leave bigger gaps as courgettes are less spraling and more upright habit.

as far as I can remember, it's the time to plant squash direct into the ground now, so go for it ;D
Yes I would agree with that, plant your squash direct, you should be fine. Courgettes won't go the three sisters route as they won't ramble through the corn. XX Jeannine
Dont give up on your squash too quickly like I did! PLanted a load of seeds, nothing germinated, 2 wks later tried again, 2 weeks later tried again. After 3 goes I gave up. Went on holiday and came back to 11 and 28, 4 days after that!!
I think the original plan was to have 6!
i did corgettes in mine last year and they were fine. in a grid of sweetcorn 4 by 4 i replaced three sweetcorn plants with corgettes and they worked well. i am not sure if you would not be better using french beans rather than runner beans. i think runners would take too much of the water and nutrients form the ground. but i might be wrong about that...
I -too - hope that it isn't too late to sow summer squash
Flossie it is still OK to sow
i,v tried with sweetcorn french beans and ridge cues at about a foot apart. time will tell if it don,t work i,ll know for next year
