Title: Red Currants

 ;D :) ::)  3rd of June and my grandaughter has just picked(and eaten) over 1/2 lb of red currants and they were fully ripe.Cant remember picking so early before. Only thing is i will have to net them to keep her off now not the birds.

I think you need an electric fence for your new type of pest, Gordon! Although in seriousness I bet you're delighted to see her pigging out on such healthy food... it's funny how kids love real food like fresh fruit, before they're trained to want junk food...

1 of our red(green!)currant bushes at ther moment. that many on it the weight is pulling it down..

Mine were laden but the birds - pigeons I suspect - have really attacked them

They are early this year I agree, earliest I've known ever!
Slightly off-topic - can anyone recommend a variety where the fruit ripens all at once, or at least fairly well distributed ripeness? I've read things, but would appreciate a recommendation from experience.
