Title: Tiny, black, hairy caterpillars!
Post by: queenfishface on June 01, 2007, 23:13:23
A couple of the roses have tiny black hairy caterpillars on them. I've been looking for a website to try to id it, without joy. Does anyone know a website? Does anyone know what the caterpillar might be? Sorry I didn't have a camera with me, might be able to manage that tomorrow. I just want to know if they are goodies or badies. I suspect the former. I think they might be eating the greenflies - fingers crossed.

Really bad photo.
Thanks Redclanger but I can't find the exact caterpillar. We've decided they are baddies. They appear to be chomping the petals and leaves.
Anyone know what they are?

Looks a bit like one of the Vapourer Moths but difficult to be sure.

6th and 7th row down on the 3rd page of photos of hairy/spiny caterpillars on the site Redclanger gave the link for.

Or try plate 14, caterpillar 12.
