I found this site a few months ago and have found it fascinating reading. Anyway thought it was time to stop 'lurking' and introduce myself. My name is Helen and I have been thinking about growing veg for many a year ::) but this year took the plunge and dug up half of the back garden. I have made 5 raised beds and planted things I eat the most, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, courgettes, peas, corn, beans and as name suggests chillis. Everything seems to be going well so far, apart from some poorly looking cucumbers following recent cold weather :'( Thank you all for all the help that you have given this 'newbie'.
No Problem Helen...
you must know how nosey we are any photos? Whereabouts are you?
Hope you have success with the chillies I grew some Orange Habanero last year and they were suicidal!
:o
Thanks saddad,
No photos yet but will take some soon. I planted 8 Jalapino (sp?) seeds, all have germinated and grown into plants about 12" high so far. Have loads of flowers and are starting to produce chillis. Can't believe how excited I was when they started to grow ;D Family think I've gone slightly mad.
Well you're in good company here then helen ;D ;)
Oh, and hello by the way! Pix would be great x
Hiya, helen, glad you took the plunge..happy growing :)
Hi H looks like your on top of things, raised beds, planting what you like and enjoying it, don't worry about going mad half this lot on hear are only let out on a weekend. :P :P :P :P :P :P ;D ;D ;D
Thanks for the warm welcome,
Just a quick question. I was about to plant out tomatoes in grow bags today. They were sown about 8 weeks ago and I have hardened them off. Anyway noticed on the gro bags it said not to plant out until they have flowers. Not a flower in sight yet. Should I wait or put them out? When do they usually get flowers? Thanks
If they have been hardened off then put them in. On a previous thread the general concensus was that most people don't get to the flower stage before planting out!
Would give you the link, but don't know how!
Thanks coznbob,
I planted them out today.
