Title: Frost damage.
Post by: shirlton on May 31, 2007, 17:12:45
In future I'm gonna listen to these experienced gardeners who tell us all to hold our horses and not be in too much of a hurry to plant  our stuff out. Our half plot escaped the frost but our other two 5 miles away caught it. Our Bunjy lost her tomatoes, her courgettes and the kids lost their runner beans. Luckily I had sewn some in pots in the GH so they will never know. My Buttercup squash copped it so I will have to put another one in. Next year will you all keep reminding me to wait until June before I plant anything tender out.

Poor people!!

But it's not just you. I'm supposed to know these things, but our Runners got lashed to pieces in the gales & our outdoor Cukes & Courgettes look decidedly sickly - not hardened off properly.

Frost in Glost? We've had it into June. And we've certainly had under 40F in the greenhouse into JULY!!

As Irma said - in Irma la Douce - DON'T BE TOO SURE!!

Or, as Baden-Powell said - BE PREPARED??

My sympathies are with you Shirlton.
The 'frost' seems to have been localised to say the least.
I did go out and protected the outdoor toms. - but they don't look well.
The previous cold days put them back. They will come through, I have no doubt!
