Title: Hello!
Post by: Janeee on May 30, 2007, 13:38:45
Hey, hope it's okay to start an intro here, couldn't find anywhere more suitable?

Anyway, my name is Jane and I'm 13 years old, I live in south yorkshire in England. We have a kitty called Patch, a dove syrian hamster called Charlie, two guinea pigs called Pepper and Beauty, 5 fishies and 10 chickens. We have 3 hens at home and 6 hens and 1 cockral at our allotments.

We have 2 allotments (next to eachother) which we've had for about 2 years now...we have a kitty on there who lived under a portacabin for many years before joining us. ;) Ermm...we have 2 greenhouses on the allotments and 2 greenhouses on our garden at home.

No idea what else to tell you all ;)
Hope I fit in here

Jane

Thanks for the welcome :D
Well it's mainly dad that's into the allotment, gardening and the chickens actually! I help dad a lot, he goes down there every morning before work to feed the chickens and the kitty, then we both go down in the evening. This year I'm growing a lot for my guinea pigs, so quite a few herbs, like basil, rocket, watercress, spinach and things like that. ;)

I could do with a herd of guinea pigs to eat all the dandelions on my allotment ::)
I used to have two when I was younger, they very quickly learned to recognise the sound of the fridge door opening and would start squeaking for carrots ;D

Thanks everyone.

manicsousers, yep am growing lots for them! they love carrots too, we have some planted and they're actually growing for once, we havn't had much success with them in the past years but hopefully they're going to be okay this year (any tips on growing carrots are appreciated :P)

cornykev, give your garden to some :P We have a small pen at the bottom of the garden with 2 maran hens, and another (not sure what she is, was found wandering around next door but ones gardens) they're called Big 'un, Little 'un and Furry legs :P Then on the allotment the cockral is a maran and the 6 hens are all ex-battery farm hens

norfolklass, I've had my guinea pigs since boxing day 2006 and I love them :D they wheek whenever they here my bedroom door open and whenever a plastic bag is rustling. :P

Welcome on board Janeee - sounds like a great set up you have.  My son would love pets in the back garden - but what we seem to have are urban foxes, squirrels and rats from the nearby factory  ;D ;D

Will they eat Land Cress? It is easy to grow and self seeds magnificently... one packet and you are never without! Salsify is similar... we ended up with a half plot covered in it after some ran to seed!
Hope you enjoy the site...
;D

Hi Janeee, good heavens you and your dad must be very busy looking after all those animals, two allotments and four greenhouses. My daughter is the same age as you and would love to have a guinea pig; she is on half term this week and has promised to help on my allotment before she goes back to school. Hope you enjoy the site DD.
