Title: Short story publishers?
Post by: kenkew on May 29, 2007, 12:15:14
I have a true story in the draft stage. On completion, can anyone point me to a publisher who might be interested?

I've had several short stories and articles published and the way to do it is to target your market, it's not usually a good idea to write first and then search around for a publisher. Magazines are a good bet for true stories, Depending on what the subject is pick out some likely magazines and research them for style, word count etc, many magazines will send you guidelines if you ask.

I am going back a long time, but I used to write junky garbage love stories to make ends meet when I was in nursing school, I did Ok too,I could rattle one off on a couple of nught duties in the rough. Peoples Friend and Womans Own was good to me...anyway the point.. I used to get a yearly called 'The Writers and Artists Yearbook', I think that is right. It gave a rundown on what kind of magazine wanted what etc with all the addresses, They were all in there, from slushy tripe ones to very serious ones. I don't know if it is still on the go but it did the job for me really well.

It might be a good place to start.

Good Luck, don't use your real name ,unless you do better stuff than I did!!!
