Title: Are all Mesembryanthemum types edible?
Post by: Merete on May 27, 2007, 17:21:41
I've planted Mesembryanthemum Crstallinum (ice plant, salt herb) from seed. When they started sprouting, the plants turned out to resemble my midday flowers (Mesembryanthemum spp., according to THAT seed packet) a whole lot.

Does anyone know whether the midday flowers are edible, too? The midday flower leaves are a little smaller, otherwise, there's NO difference - and I've actually found that midday flower is one of the names for the common ice plant...

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Plant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Plant) it is no longer classed as a Mesembryanthemum and its biological name is now Carpobrotus edulis.
