Raining hard now so have decided to give the house a bit of a clean as have neglected it over that last few weeks
Middle son got married last week end !! and the rest of my free time I was at the allotment :)
Have been sitting here spending too much time reading A4A posts!! Should be hoovering or sorting greenhouse out ;D At least next door (daughter) set off for Spain at 2am so I won't get usual Sunday interuptions, unless other 4 children turn up :o
That sounds familiar ;D
all my boys live so close and if they know I am in I have at least one family call in and then they stay for a meal.
just finished cleaning wet room now onto main bedroom >:(
hope you did not have to do the airport run ???
i am running around after two boys who are making mess as fast as i can clear it up. nothing new there then!! they are doing art and craft in the kitchen at the moment, one is making a crocodile out of egg boxes and stuff and the other is making a mask to frighten his aunt with later on. i am hanging up washing; hoovering; picking up stuff stuff stuff........
Been for a long walk in the rain, saw 26 different sorts of birds including a cuckoo and hundreds of swallows and martins.
As a reward have just had a lovely cup of hot chocolate and now plan to do some work so that I can have some time on the allotment when - if - it stops raining.
Was feeling very virtuous and doing a bit of hoovering to remove, amongst other general dust, fire ash etc, the soil from my boots wandering in & out of the garden. I made it to the loft where my office is & have been reading 8 pages of posts on A4A since.
Now about to descend & Goretex up to go and visit a yellow book garden in the rain, well, it is for charity mate.
Cats and dogs all yesterday late afternoon and today :(, its meant to be windy here tomorrow so I've been out to the plastic greenhouse to battern it down and take trays of plants off the shelves and onto the floor, might give the loft a tidy later after my bacon and mushroom sandwich. :P ;D ;D ;D
I am playing on the computer in my flannel jammies and John is planting corn in the rain...life is so toughXX Jeannine
Guilt-free watching of Monaco grand prix
Us too asbean! Well, if you can't get to the lottie.... ;)
I'm trying to decide if it's a good thing to want a beer whilst I join in the only sane activity... watching Monaco.
It's nearly lunch time olliec so a beer is almost a necessity ;) enjoy ;D ;D
Kello Kitten, thank you for the support. ;D
Hi all,
I just got home, wet and muddy. I found lots of thick black plastic in a skip
and I know where theres another with blue pipe in it for collection tomorrow.
I cleared some ground and I planted out a block of sweetcorn on it
before rain stopped play.
Took pictures of Anglia Waters marking out of the site, which is illegal,
and got suitably outraged as I will lose two thirds of plot number two.
Now I`m drinking coffee, getting warm and ranting.
I should be packing as I`m going to Disneyland Paris on Tuesday. ;D
Col
nice to see that the men are watching TV and us girls are working hard ???
I am still in my jim jams too !!!
Catching up on paperwork and forum reading! And worrying about my french beans that I planted out yesterday after minimal hardening off!
:) cropping insect photos and drinking wine- not in jim jams- and watching the baby birds, and cooking dinner ;D/shades x
Got soaking wet picking the broad beans for lunch.......but they did taste good.
Hi Guys & Gals.
I was out till 1am visiting friends so only got out of bed about midday ( hubbie made me a mixed grill yum )
I am however being forced to watch the grand prix but the rains 2 heavy here to go to the lotty and the wind is a little 2 strong. I have pulled the cover up on my mini greenhouse to allow the plants to harden off a little so i can move them right up to the lotty and in.
I am going to get dinner on in a mo as it tastes better if its cooked long and slow, its Carbonnade of Beef with Wholegrain Mustard Croutons. If anyone fancys the recipie you can get it from :-http://www.ocado.com/content/html/recipes3/carbonnadeOfBeef.html
Just need to get a fresh bagutte for the mustard croutons so i might wander over to the shops and pick up the sunday paper as well and have a lazy weekend. I have to say it feels very strange a bit like when you get back from a holiday you think hang on its 2pm i should be at the beach not going back to work after lunch :-(

I'm fairly new to the gardening and after spending an eventful day at the allotment with some help from my aunt, i having withdrawal symptons, this evening were going to a bbq our friends covered their back garden with sheeting yesterday to make like a roof and there still planning on going a head with it!
i think it sounds like fun, and outdoor, indoor bbq :-)
I will bet that you dont last more than an hour or 2 out there though!!
No rain here but the wind has picked up a tad and its really cold out there. The weather forecast is pretty awful for you folk in the South.
OH is watching teh Monaco GP too and I can hear it in the background. I am trying to chill out a bit for a change. I have been busy most of the week on Christian Aid monies from 4 villages and also helping to organise a Coffee Morning with all the tasks that go with it. I think my week ahead will be quieter except for more money to count from another village for Christian Aid. I will get into our garden at some stage during the week, hopefully.
::) ::)
We BBQ in the snow often XX Jeannine
DOH!!
I am not that insane :-)
Oh it is fun. We BBQ all year round, somethings you just can't cook on a conventional cooker, and we use it a couple times a week in winter, much more in the summer of course. It is not much fun in torrential rain but needs must if I have had something marinating all night. I think people here look upon it as a sharing thing with neighbours and friends rather than a regular means of cooking, usually it is just the two of us.XX Jeannine
Went shopping in the end, still raining, love a beer or better still a cider but on anti biotics untill tomorrow, going to collect my dinner shortly. ;D ;D ;D
Its the Southend Air Show - -its raining of course, but at the moment we are being deafened by some Red Arrow type of display with coloured smoke.
Getting very wet Trimming Hedges in the rain!
::)
It's stopped raining here now. But what a mess the oak tree has left everyone...Leaves everywhere. As usual they will all end up in my drive as I'm at the bottom of a hill. I'll be bagging them up to use next year.
Been sat here catching up on the new threads. Hubby is watching Blackpool v Yeovil. Seriously cannot wait for the end of the season. I might get a chance to watch a garden program or two.
Lauren :)
Lauren my OH is a football fanatic and will watch anyone play so like you I have to wait until the football season is over but then it is tennis / golf or cricket
that another reason why i got the allotment as I would rather be outside in the garden that stuck in front of the TV
still raining it has been all day just hope it is better tomorrow ??? ??? ???
I have just been out to the garden and its flooded since this morning i have over an inch of rain sitting on the grass :'(
I have put holes in the soil but its not made any difference!!
Just hope the allotment sucks in all that water :)
The rain has slowed down a bit so I rushed over to stick some beetroot and sweetcorn in, just come back full of mud. ??? ::) ;D ;D ;D
Managed two visits to the plot today, this morning, and about two hours ago. Lots of beans either potted up (about 100), and 60 borlotti planted out. Also got a lot more canes up, and harvested a lot of the old jerusalem artichoke regrowth from last year to use as mulch around the beans. Cleared the greenhouse of everything except tomatoes and aubergines, and although the plot is infested with weeds, everything is beginning to look a tad more tidy. More tomorrow with hope ...
Derek :)
Just got back from walking the dog, via the lottie of course! ;)
Friends parents were getting rid of a their rhubarb, so managed to snaffle a crown, planted it in the rain along with a bramleys apple that OH saw for £2.49 in poundstretchers yesterday. Know it is the wrong time of year but worth a try!
Am keeping out of the way whilst he is putting the kids to bed. So far 2 are down with a sickness etc bug, yuck!
got up, went to the plot, covered up squash we planted out yesterday as it's going to be wet and windy later on
home to make 2 strawberry flans from our own fruit, for the family bbq later ::) ::)
had a quick bacon 'n' eggs, picked up in laws..off to our daughters
bbq, poor mike outside under the gazebo while we were inside in the warm, glasses of wine ,non alcoholic as sam's pregnant
took in laws home, 20 miles each way, home for a cuppa, too full to move, but the strawberries took centre stage :)
ready for a sleep now
Just had the neighbour come around to tell me that our gazebo had blown over and was bashing against the fence. I had to run out to dismantle it, not funny in these winds!!!! Then I had to carry the seat cushions up the steps into the conservatory. I am now very wet and very cold!
It is like a tropical storm out there. :o I hope the greenhouse on the lottie is OK as it is a bit rickety.
cj :)
Hello
I am bailing the water out of my garden i have at least 5-6" water and another 1" or so and the water will be in my kitchen. My poor veg are swimming they will need armbands if this keeps up the wind has also really pick up with some strong gusts.
I have just pop in to check my mail back to bailing duty's hope the council come with some sandbags soon.
All the drains and guttering are over flowing at least the heavy rain has stopped more on the way
Cheers
Very Wet Brogusblue >:( >:( >:(
Got fed up with the football noise going on behind me. So went out and sowed 5 pots of carrots. When I came in at 7 dinner was ready for me. That was a welcome surprise as I was cold but not wet t/g.
Lauren :)
are you ok, broguesblue, do you get this sort of problems lots or are you just unlucky today..hope your veggies survive and the rain stops soon for you :( :)
Well I couldn't resist a trip to the lottie today, even though it has been pouring all day and is still raining now. Wish I hadn't, here are the pictures of doom. Do you think they'll survive?
Hello
Rushed home from uncles in wales as my disabled mum told me bout the water, my local highways agency just delivered 20 sandbags ;D my garden is still about 4-5" under water, Where i live is on a corner with a sight dip and with everyones guttering and drains overflowing it's running my way since 5pm this afternoon i have pulled out of my drains an soakaway 6 carrier bags of moss and sludge :o my feet are like prunes i am now sitting here with my feet in soak in a bowl of radox munching toast.
As for the veg i will have wait and see on that.
Cheers
Slightly Soggy Brogusblue
P.s
Jenfur I hope your lottie recovers i am only around the corner from you i live nr the downs, We have some wild weather today.
Installed some stuff on the computer and spent most of the day tied up with church stuff.
Cripes Jenfur, that looks grim. :o
Shame about the Southend airshow. innit Tin shed.Tommorrow doesn't look like it's going to be any better. Don't bother to go these days but we do see some from the garden.
Housework and decorating going on here. BW refuses to go anywhere on a bank holiday weekend, rain or no.
Sorry to hear of your sogginess too Brogusblue, hope things improve rapidly.
Crikey, some of you are really suffering, hope things ease up for you. It has been raining all day here but no emergencies. Next door (daughter & co) went to Spain at 2am so all I had to do was to dash round and see to the cats, have just put them to bed. Most unusual I have had no visitors today so have had a real lazy day.
Downside of living here I guess. Just have to hope it all miraculously drains away. Good luck with the sandbags, and get a nice hot shower in ;)
Hello
I now have a fire engine blocking my road they are going to pump the water down the storm drain, I had shock when they called i didn't ring them the highways agency guy's did. I have never had it so bad in 17 years living here.
I am now going to bed the doggies are looking at me to say where's tonights walkies Not being funny they don't want the garden Mr B have to tie a knot in it and Gini will have to cross her legs untill morning.
Cheers

Took the kids out for the day on a trip paid for by work . Went to Ruff n' Tumble. The best kids play area they have been to I reckon. Indoor rockclimbing also. Kids loved it. Stayed there 4 hours. Work even coughed up for the kids lunch - chicken fingers, chips, salad, ice-cream, juice, party bag. OH did chores at home & shopping. She was pleased with her days achievements, me with the quality time with the kids on such a lousy day. I am now babysitting tonight & she is out on the tiles. Something wrong there me thinks.... ;D ;D ;D
Hi Jenfer,
Have you got any more soil? I would top up that bed with more soil and add some wood chips or sand to the paths.
Or start bailing into your water buts.
brogusblue has the water started to come in the house??
Cambourne7
:'( think I will soon be onto the bailing stage if it doesn't let up soon. Am thinking maybe I should transplant some tiny seedlings back into buckets etc so they don't get completely underwater? Especially the poor cukes and courgettes that only got put out yesterday!! And tiny sunflowers, this was them yesterday, and now they are totally underwater.
Brogusblue, you sound very calm - I think I'd be in a right tiz. Do hope it has begun to drain away & that the firemen were nice ;D
Been peeing down all day here & still coming down though now accompanied by strong gusts of wind. Have spent the afternoon on the sofa with a book in front of a blazing fire. Well what else was there to do? :)
Good Morning all
Still raining but the sandbags are doing there trick, What can you do in this weather theres no point losing your head things can be replaced or regrown.
Jenfur Hope your seedlings are o.k and the lottie is a lot better today i will check on veg today.
Cheers
Brogusblue
Its awful here in Northants today again. We took the boys to see Spiderman 3 last night as no chance of going anywhere in this weather. One of the big trees had blown down in Barton Road...Thats how bad the wind is.!!! Maybe the wind will batter all those weeds and brambles at our Jungle(allotment)!!!
Gonna spend the day reading all these pages and taking notes. Could be an expert by the time the rain stops ;D
Cats and dogs non stop since 5 o clock Saturday afternoon, had to work today, not to bothered when the weathers like this, the outlaws are down from the North East this week, they said its hardly rained up there. ;D ;D ;D
Weather not too bad today - managed to get to the allotment for a couple of hours and spent most of the afternoon in the back garden had to riddle the compast in the bin and added it to the garden back bed.
Sorry for all of you with all that rain and the damage hope things get better
Hasn't stopped here. I was so bored I even got the steam cleaner out and steamed the lounge carpet!! You know how I love housework :)
Jenfur and Brogusblue - hope it all gets dried up soon, and minimal damage.
been raining here for two days, windy and cold, but not half as bad as some of you are getting.
In between showers managed to plant a jack be little, transplant the leeks to bigger pots and do a little more digging. It's pretty cold here, am worried about my melons, squashes and pumpkins.
Hope it improves, I'm off all week.
actually managed to do some housework and made some quiches for the freezer..too cold and drizzly off and on to go to the plot
there's nothing that won't keep but we will have to get there tomorrow ;D

Well I am just going to plants seeds on my kitchen table,it is too ruddy cold and blowy outside and I don't fancy standing in a greenhouse either, so needs must. XX Jeannine

Bloody hail I had to hide in my (vandalised) shed for about 15 minutes this afternoon!
I've been in college all day teaching students who really didn't want to be there any more than I did.
Jenfur how's lottie today any better, I know the bl***dy hail i trying to concrete my washing line post in and dashing around my little plot cover them up the beetroot took a battering >:( never mind will sow some more.

Brogusblue
I know I would kill to just be able to do a day of lottie work then have a nice BBQ up there! Never mind most of the surface water has gone today, but still very soggy!! Most plants look ok, panic over :-[ how's your place? Firemen all gone? they were here too on Sunday and Monday. Managed to miss most of the showers while out and about today though.
Jenfur all gone now apart muck left behind the fire men where here for about 1/2 hour i now have a nice collection of sandbags ::) That sounds a nice idea a BBQ i have a new one purchased last year and is in shed ready for the sunshine beer & burger that's making my mouth water as i am typing this.

Raining on and off all day hang on :o the suns 8) just come out. ;D ;D ;D
managed to get enough dry spells between the drizzly rain, you know, 'the rain that wets you'.. ;D
planted up the rest of the sweetcorn in the poly, calabrese outside, chinese leaves surrounded by slug stoppa granules ::)
came home, rained for half an hour then the sun came out !! ;D
Am marking down the time until Rob gets back from work, so I can go up to lottie.
Is too wet for the kids to go up there at the mo. But rain or no rain I am going!
The poor kids have had a sickness bug, in the true half term is here and we can't go out style!
Bless them, I do feel for them, but can't they all get it at once? With 4 of them its going to take at least another week to be truly clear... ::)
Sunny spells today, no rain as of yet, lovely when the suns out, strimmed some long grass around the paths earlier, poxy cordless don't last 20 mins, off out for dinner now , no kids tonight, mind you now BB back on tv I don't suppose it will be a romantic night. :( ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Boiling hot in Hull today, shirt sleeves on the lottie all day, John rotavated one full plot while I played with my new Wolf push and pull hoe on the other one.
Planted my 2 very very large Jack Be Little Pumpkin plants out as they didn't like it in the greenhouse, not hardened of and not too well so am not expecting a lot,but they didn't like where they were .
Sun I still shining here XX Jeannine
took the kids to winspit today near worth matravers in the purbecks. there are a lot of old caverns there where they used to quarry purbeck stone. its a great place and we got soaked to the skin. great fun.
We had a brief thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, but it was soon avoer. I've just started the dreaded GCSE marking, and I'm a bit tied up, but if the weather's half decent I'll be down on the plot later.
had a bit of rain last night, went for my pre-op, god, the nurse hurt my arm when she took blood, I've a great big purple lump there..
weather was gorgeous, went to the plot after the hospital, planted the barlottos, 2 wigwams full this year, uncovered all the squash and courgettes, 84 degrees in the poly so, damped down, picked strawberries and we ate them there, picked salad leaves and red onions and had lunch there..came home for a few hours..we have to go back to shut the doors on the poly tonight, sun's still out here, lovely ;D
have not felt 100% for the last couple of days so i have not been on the allotment.
I have tried today but its just so hot i just dont think its a great idea, i might go up later when the suns not so hot and do more weeding :-)
