Title: Does Rhubarb work?
Post by: Sinbad7 on May 26, 2007, 22:11:16
A friend told me that when they watched the 'lottie' programme on UK Gold this week, they said to soak rhubarb leaves in water and leave for a few days then spray on your brassica's to kill white fly.

Do you think this would kill black fly too?

Let's give it a try and see what happens.  I've never heard of that before, but if it works, why  not?

I have heard that too, but as ours has only been planted this year won't be touching it until next!

Will await the outcome with interest.

It definitely works; almost anything will kill aphids, but the oxalic acid from rhubarb leaves is pretty effective for most insects.

Might give it a go on the broad beans - black fly all over

No need to soak your rhubarb leaves.Just boil them up for a short while and then strain, cool and spray.

Not selective though and will deter most insects I believe.

That should clean your pans too, or so I have been told! :)
