Hello all...
I'm growing in the back garden this year while I wait patiently (kind of) to be given an allotment and because of the poor placement of my garden in relation to the house and the sun and nearby trees and the wall etc it only really gets sun from one side, although it does get a fair amount from there. This has resulted in my sweet corn (which seems to be growing fantastically by the way), which are next to a wall, leaning slightly in the direction most of the sun comes from, its not a massive lean but I'm worried that as the plants grow it'll run the risk of straining the roots and them falling over or something esp in wind.
So... I was wondering if I got a large sheet of something, covered it in silver foil and put it between the sweet corn and the wall, thereby reflecting the sun back on the corn from the other side would that make them grow up straight???
It seems like it would work in my head, but I may just be mad... what do you all think?
If you've got the foil it's worth a try... or you could stake them?

I've done a similar thing on a much smaller scale with seedlings on a windowsill and it seems to work, so give it a try!
Rawlplug two eye-bolts into the wall fix a series of horizontal wires say 500mm apart then you can tie your corn back to these, or anything that needs some sort of support e.g fruit!
Yes - although I use reflective panels in the lean-to, I do not think that they would be the answer.
Last year our Corn - 15' away from a house wall - leant so much that we had to stake it!
You could white wash the wall, that would reflect the light and be easier and cheaper than foil.
Yeh, but harder to remove if you changed your mind!!!
Just out of interest Cuke, are you waiting for a plot on a specific site? I'm in Gloucester and as far as I'm aware there are plots available on our site. I had to settle on a different site to the one I would have gone for first.
