This fella tried jumping out of the nest a tad too soon. I watched him flutter out of control almost straight down from quite a height. Fortunatelyhe survived. Don't know if he'll make it or not.
Great pic & a wonderful thing to see but I have mixed feelings about herons these days as they keep nicking our fish from the pond & often leaving them to die on the lawn.
Oh do hope he makes it, is it near water n fish? I too have a frequent visit from Mr/Mrs Heron. OOps must check the pond NOW, this is the time of night I see one visiting. ::)
Why do you two keep Heron food in your garden?
I know Ken, fish is food to a Heron. The River Blackadder is only 100yds away but he does like to look at a bonny gold fish for eating. I try to discourage he/she but if he manages well what the heck, tis only nature after all.
I feel the same - they are very beautiful & have to eat & feed their babies & our fish breed like mad so we have loads BUT I do get upset when I find a 4 or 5 year old goldfish dead on the lawn & not eaten.
As for why we have heron food in our garden I don't really know - OH's department but we inherited them with the house & I do like watching them.
