Title: Cold frame - small rant
Post by: pye on May 22, 2007, 12:47:35
I got a posh new cold frame (http://www.twowests.co.uk/TwoWestsSite/product/CFT.htm) for my birthday this year, set it up this morning full of tomato plants and some seed trays I sowed yesterday.

BUT - the frame doesn't fit a row of standard-sized seed trays, either longways or sideways, without wasting loads of space.

I've spent ages fiddling about with it to fit stuff in the best I can. So stupid! Why didn't they size it so it would fit a row of trays? I'm feeling a bit cross about it all. >:(

Knew I should've made my own.  >:( >:(

Possibly designed by a non gardener.

To give him/her (the designer) the benefit of the doubt I would guess it is built to cater for glass sizes and not what it ultimately to be used for.

Just a thought  ???

It's so that once you've put your seed trays in, you can still find places for all the odds and ends that turn up.   8)

Bad luck pye. I have always wondered about the cost of coldframes... to me they should come out at around £20-30 and I could knock one out for £10. But I reckon that the cheap plastic ones are the ones to go for, they are only £10. I also don't get why people want posh coldframes, I could think of better ways to spend the money than in the garden... It's a slightly old-fashioned way of thinking that the lottie is a working environment where money spent on coldframes and stuff comes out of the overall benefit.

Yeah, you're probably right Tee Gee. Anyway, it's growing on me now, my toms are so happy all cozied up in there  :)

Si - you're right, but coz I'm a backyard grower I have to at least try to make my veg patch look respectable  :)
