a (*^%&$ mouse(s) is eating all my seedlings (well select seedlings usually bedding plants not the spare PSB or stuff I dont need!). I have set a couple of traps which keep coming back robbed of bait but no dead mice -
does anyone know any other methods of trapping killing removing etc the things.
Im looking for something I can make/use immediately so buying something by mail order is out as Ill have no plants left by the time it arrives
they seem particularily fond of radishes, marigolds and corn flowers
What bait are you using? We find peanut butter, fruit cake or chocolate works best
Good luck ,we caught 21 before they got the message! or moved nearer to you.
I've got a couple of cats, they are full-time mousers at the moment, so we hardly see them. There are also cats near the allotments, and they do a good job, patrolling for mice and pigeons.
we have cats but dont let them in the shed cos they knock the plants over -
bait im using bits of bread - and small raddish
21 eeek! - that sounds bad - might just have to move the plants away.
I imagine they wont cause any damage to 20" high tomato plants - or will they?
glow777 Just put a bit of mars bar on, never failed me. I live in end of terrace bungalows and when a neighbour had a lot of loft work done it sent HIS mice along to mine. They came down the side of a pipe in the airing cupboard. With the help of Mars bar I caught 3 in just over an hour. I hate them, filled the hole and nothing since thank goodness. Recently had one in greenhouse after the sweet pea seeds, same method worked overnight.
No bait - 100% kill rate!
i have used mars bar a lot and found it very good but have just found something better. tesco sell a twisty cheese bread thing, about 55p. i bought one for my lunch and left it in the cabin. came back the next day and half had been eaten. i started to put it on traps and caught loads. the thing is with this it doesnt melt were mars bar does
Where did you purchase your mouse trap Tim...?
Lauren :-\
If you have something special you want to protect, ring it, or at least the surface around it with something really smelly like Jeyes Fluid or bleach. Mice navigate by smell so if you disrupt the smell pattern, they can't find their way back to their previous source of food & go elsewhere.
I can't stand the little blighters. Did you know they don't have a bladder so dribble urine everywhere they go which is what forms their scent trail, and that lots of them carry salmonella. I had trouble with field mice in my first house & when I found those facts out I went into eradication meltdown. In the end I ringed the house with bleach every few days & that did the trick after about 10 days.
They're around in my back yard & sometimes in the outhouse which I don't mind too much and as they're pinching bird food out of the feedsrs it seems I'll have to put up with them if I want to feed the birds, but woe betide any of them if they get near the house.........
The Poundshop sell what TIM has put on 2 in a packet.
Believe this or not a mouses favourite food is supposed to be Snickers
We make our own mouse traps ( humane type ) and they are very affective
I find peanut butter really effective and got 30 this winter... I only set traps after damage to my stored potatoes. If they take the bait without the trap going off you have a naff trap. If they eat the bait after you have a dead mouse you know you need to re set it!
;D
I watched a tiny field mouse run up the cable for a light in OH's kitchen last night. It must be coming in from the cellar and gaining acess around the back of the washing machine ::) OH has set humane trap ...
