Hello chaps, long time no speak.
Just got a pond, well dug/built one. Its about 2 metres long, one metre wide and 40-50cm deep. So about a cubic metre worth of water.
Just wondering firstly how much oxygen that will need and therefore what plants are best? I have a 23 litre per minute pump so far.
Next question, what fish? i was thinking about possible a couple of small/baby carp. But i dont think the pond would be big enough, also a little worried about the price?
I will get a pic when i can to let you all help me plan ;-)
Hi Adam,
Your pond is not deep enough for big fish like koi carp. I would suggest a few goldfish and shubunkins for colour. 40/50cm depth is also not very deep for the winter months if you get severe frosts - you will have to keep an eye on it in case it freezes over. Pity you are so far from me - my pond is overstocked and I would love to be able to pass a few on to a good home. Oxygenating plants like elodea crispa, a couple of water lilies and a few marsh plants would look good.
