What, please, is 'ones' interpretation of the bracketed bit??
One plants them out when frost seems unlikely, and fleeces or cloches them until one is certain.
Hmmm. Sounds as though even if there's no frost, they'll be unhappy with chilly nights. So I'd interpret it as needing protection while the plants are growing, and perhaps a windbreak indefinitely.
So do I. But T&M refuse to be drawn on the point. In addition, they don't warn you beforehand that the best flavour is from outdoor plants, nor do they tell you whether they are bush or cordon. Only by further reading do you see that they are ideal for pots & baskets.
This is the latest - but NOT final episode!!

Ever decreasing circles. :)
Omitted this bit!!
