First time in 4 years.. I have found lily beetles. Not the easiest thing to squash between finger and thumb!! Managed to dispose of 6, couldn't see any more but just going to search for advice how to avoid or how to get rid of the things.
I know there is some information on here somewhere.
Lorna.
Hi Lorna. I'd say the only way to avoid them is by not growing their favourite food (not an option as far as I'm concerned). And the only way to get rid of them is to squish them as you have been doing, unless you want to resort to chemicals, which I know nothing about, but I have it in the back of my mind that there is nothing suitable on the market?

Thank you Georgie. I haven't got that many lillies at present so squishing would not be too much of a problem. Will go beetle hunting again tomorrow. I really don't want to get rid of the lillies.
Lorna.
I've had loads of the little blighters this year - must have caught nearly 100. At first I was squishing them which as you say Lorna isn't that easy to do. I then resorted to walking round with a small bowl of water with a drop of washing-up liquid - drop nasty red thing into it - bit of wing flapping then they sink to the bottom - mission accomplished! [still got loads of holes in me lillies though]. :)
;DMarymary after failing to squish second one I dropped the rest in to the small water feature I have just to see what happened. Same thing bit of wing flapping and then down they went. I was about to clean out the water feature.
Tomorrow I will do it your way. So far only the odd hole in the plants so it is definitely now full speed to the beetle extermination plan :)
Lorna.
I spotted 2 on my peas this morning! Squished them.
Do they normally eat peas?
Suesteve. Have to wait for one of the experienced gardeners to answer that ;D I hope not I have got some peas planted, first time I have ever grown them
I hope not too cos it's the first time I have succeeded in growing peas - tried lots of times & failed. Aren't they pretty Lorna? I love looking at them.
No but they will nibble any asparagus fern nearby...
:(
Marymary. Haven't found any more yet, mind you I have had a reminder to say I am due for another eye test ;D

Could account for my nibbled tiny spears.
Lorna I think you'd spot them - difficult to miss the blighters. :)
