I planted some chinese artichoke (crosnes) tubers a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I didn't mark very clearly where I put them and the bed now has a lot of weeds. There are a few little shoots amongst the weeds which look unfamiliar, but I realise I have absolutely no idea what a chinese artichoke plant looks like. I googled but only come up with pics of the tubers. I'd hugely appreciate it if someone could describe / show what they should look like at this stage, and what to expect later in the summer
There was an article in GYO last month. The text is here http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gardenguide/2007/april.php but no pictures. If anyone has the magazine to hand, perhaps they could scan a picture for you today. If not, I can do it sometime over the weekend if it helps?
Edit: A couple of (not very good) pictures here ... http://www.tripplebrookfarm.com/iplants/Stachys.html
And another quite useful description http://www.herbsarespecial.com.au/free-herb-information/chinese-artichokes.html
Thankyou Melbourne12. The Tripplebrook farm picture is very helpful - I realise why I thought lemon balm had seeded everywhere! I think I can now go and weed with confidence.
Good thread Clara! I was wondering the same thing.
I planted mine ages ago but still no show :( Looks like I've been nurturing a few weeds that I thought might be my 'latest exotic vegetable' crop ::)
TYPICAL ;D
Mine aren't showing yet either, can't understand it. :(

Well, don't say that I didn't try. I just looked up April's GYO article. Guess what? A picture of the Chinese artichoke tubers, but NO picture of the plant!
