I was just searching for recipes that included quinces and medlars and came across this FANTASTIC website about historic food.
I've been open-mouthed (and strangely silent) for at least 2 hours just browsing.
http://www.historicfood.com/portal.htm
Check out the recipes and then FORCE yourself not to book on to the 2 day course for £260!
Then force yourself not to go Googling for those fantastic pie-moulds ;D
My favourites are the asparagus ices, gooseberry hops, lamb pasty and the dripping pan puddings in the 'English Pudding' section.
Enjoy :)
Wow! Thanks for that. I do hope it's the usual rubbish on TV this evening and then I can slip away and "work on the computer"! ;D
Of COURSE it's the usual rubbish on TV Trev. Apart from Coronation Street of course ;D
Enjoy! It really is a fantastic site!
Thats just NOT fair Trixie, there just are not enough hours in the day to play on the computer now, without you giving me that to look through! ;) ;D
IT'LL ONLY TAKE A MINUTE IF YOU'RE QUICK DORIS :D
you're right, trixie..the moulds are fantastic :)
Trixie you are wicked you know,I didn't know this site which is surprising as I do love historical cookery and have a decent library of books.
I only dare take a peep and didn't dare look too much at the moulds, I have several raised game pie moulds and a few for ices and would happilly get more if tempted
Can't look, can look. Shan't look, but I know I ruddy well will look.
I need a bird mould for the top of my Quail pudding.
Oh you are so bad !!!!

BAD TO THE BONE :D
I treated myself on Saturday and bought "The best of Mrs Beeton's easy entertaining" for £2 at my local discount shop.
I'm a big fan of hers after making rhubarb&orange jam from bbc food portal.
Look at this web site:

Nice link Natasha. Thanks!
That's another few hours of my life consumed with learning about something I know nothing about :)
I didn't realise 'Mrs Beeton' was born and did her work in the 18'00s.
I thought she was a housewife from the 1940's.
History was never my strong point ..
