Title: Alium
Post by: SueSteve on May 15, 2007, 22:25:31
I have an Alium in the garden, I am not sure what it is, edible or not.
My sister picked the plant from a meadow last year, she brought it to me thinking that I would know what it is, but I dont!
The stalks are quiet tall, round and fairly thin - spring onion thickness and about 70cm tall. It is just starting to flower with pink coloured pods on the top. Any idea how I can find out what it might be, or could anyone suggest anything?
Thanks,
Sue

No trouble if you can post a picture when it flowers. Well, not too much trouble, well nearly certain I can.
All Alliums are edible, more or less, but there are some which are a lot stronger tasting than others.

Besy way is to send Dan his £10 and get the Photo posting priviledge or send one via Photobucket etc.

It hasn't flowered yet, so I will let you know. At the moment it just has pinch bulges where the flower head will be!

This is going back a bit, but the heads on the 'alium' did not flower! A ball formed at the top and I was waiting for it to open to flower, but no flower!
What I now have is the ?leaves? around the ball are opening to reveal lots of red juicy looking fruit, with green tenticles coming out of the ball!
Any ideas anyone??
Thanks
Sue

Really do wish we could see a picture of this. It sounds a bit like A. schubertii, but not exactly.
