I bought some Fuchsias about a month ago. They were 99p per plant so I decided to buy the four I liked best and attempt to take cuttings.
The results: All have rooted!!
Well that's the 4 I didn't accidently fry :-[, I put half on a sunny windowsill and the other half on a windowsill that only gets evening sun. Guess which ones fried ? I only found out when it was too late to save them that they don't like too much sun as cuttings but at least I've got four new plants out of it, going to do some more.
I've never tried Fuchsia cuttings before, now I need to find out the best way to overwinter them for cuttings next spring.
did you get 1 off each ?, :)
A thought - initially, cuttings need virtually no light?
Now - get to love Whitefly!!
Just looked at what I said Tim.
It's not just evening sun that that particular window gets, it's from late morning going on to the evening, the sun isn't 90 degrees to the window until much later, wrote my first post in a hurry, sorry :-[ They do need light, just not too much heat.
Let's try again.
Half were on a window in early morning sun (those ones fried), the other half were on a well light window, where the sun arrives late morning, those are the ones that were sucessful.
Manicscousers, I didn't get one of each this time but I hope I get all four when I take more cuttings tomorrow.
good luck, they're always tricky, i managed to rot half of mine off, eric told me they like it 'on the dry side'..so next time i won't drown them ;D
Thanks.
I followed the instructions in a book called 'Propagation', it's an Aura Garden Guide by Siegfried Stein. This book says that they should be kept away from draughts and have plenty humidity for the first 3 or 4 weeks and (the bit I didn't read properly) that they will root very quickly in a well-lit position out of the sun at a temperature of 72-75F (22-24C).
I did it this way with 4, the other 4, I put on a window with too much sun. I think if I'd put them all on the window with less sun, I might have had all 8 take.
