Somebody kindly gave me five Jerusalem artichoke root/bulb/thingys. Iwas told to plant them about five inches into the ground, which i have, however i don't know anything about them, ie how long they take to grow, how large they grow etc. I've never actually cooked them either, so any advice will be welcome.
They grow to about 8 feet, late summer I cut ours down to about 2 ,Sunflower- like.
They stay in the ground all winter ,I start digging up about December, as and when needed ,store better in ground
cook as you would a spud I never peel, brilliant for soup.
use the search facility - loads of good info on JA's and how to combat the after effects when eating ;D ;D ;D
Mine are about 12/15 inches high, thanx Jenny :-* ;D ;D ;D
and try very hard to dig all the bits out next spring or you will end up with millions!

To get rid of it, dig it out in early spring, and leave the bed alone for a bit. Once the bits you left behind have grown a bit, dig them out. Then, once it's really clear, plant tender veg.
