Title: Pea moth.
Post by: carolinej on May 08, 2007, 23:35:31
Hello,

I think I heard that you could avoid problems with the pea moth by planting peas later.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Yes - plant either early, ie jan/feb or late (July) to avoid the pea moth.

Basically the early sowings are harvested before its breading season, and the lates do not form until after it has ended.

July it is , then ;D

That will take a bit of pressure off me in the planting plan. Isnt it amazing how much goes in this month?

Any tips on avoiding pea moth apart from sowing late/early? I've just picked my first crop of peas this year and almost every pod has a maggot in it somewhere.

Mildew is the biggest threat to peas planted late... some varieties are better than others... keep them as moist as you can!
