Hello :)
OH may have to go to Constanza in Romania to do a wedding for a charity worker we know out there. Of course, I will need to tag along for moral support ;D ;D ;D
Has anyone been there, or even to Romania?
Any info gladly recieved.
By the way, it will be next May.
cj :)
It used to be full of gypsies and thieves, but it is all right now. They are all over here.
My OH has been to Constanza in the early eighties and he liked it.
I went to Bucharest in the nineties. It was very rundown, felt like a 3rd world country. But that's a while ago, so things may have changed!
I have it on good authority that you should only travel to Romania in threes.
When are we all going!!!
Have a ball Caroline, it will be a big adventure, enjoy it XX Jeannine
Went to Constanza and Bucharest on a youth orchestra tour in the mid eighties (before the earthquake). The rule then was to pack an extra pair of jeans to flog at a hugely inflated price. Not a clue as to what it's like now, but even then the beaches were packed.
Thought this was the latest A4A meet proposal ! Almost had me bag packed.

No one told me they had earthquakes!!

Yep, 1977 (guess it was mid seventies rather than eighties that I was there ::)). About nine months after we got back, most of Bucharest was destroyed and lots of people killed. Don't think they've had anything as serious since though.

I also went to Bucharest in the nineties. Have also been to quite a few 3rd world countries and none have felt as miserable and unpleasant as Romania did. There is some pretty spectacular scenery, though - mountains, beautiful coastline & beaches and the danube delta. Also some buildings survived the communist era - the painted monasteries are famous and there are some amazing castles and churches,
My youngest son has just travelled through Romania. He liked it a lot and intends to go back. He says the scenery is fantastic and the people(in the countryside) very poor but very friendly. The scale of the country and it's potential to produce agricultural crops astonished him. Clearly someone is investing to take advantage of this in the E.U. for eight lane motorways are starting to be constructed and at one point he saw what appeared to be a storage depot under construction which ran for about ten miles :o
Thanks for all the info. I have another question for you.
What are the loos like in Romania and how widely available are they? Any ideas?
cj :)
Have ya got room in ya case for a spade?? ;D ;D
I've heard about Romanian weddings, know a Romanian couple who got married last year and heard all their plans. Weddings go on for a couple of days, I think.
Frogslegs, I really REALLY hope you are wrong :-X :)
Asbean, one of the couple is Welsh, so it may be a shorter affair.
