Title: freezing rhubarb crumble question
Post by: natasha on May 07, 2007, 11:36:45
I want to make a couple of them and freeze, so that in winter we have something quick on dessert, but the question is do I freeze it already baked or is it better to put everything together and freeze it uncooked? How long will it keep for?

Please help!

I would freeze the rhubarb separately (in portions) and the crumble ready-made in bags, again in portions, then you can put them together when you need them.

Hi Caroline! I'm lazy!  :-[ I make crumble topping in big batches - freeze it in big bags - and it's always ready to pour on top of whatever fruit I have. Don't know how long it might keep for - it doesn't stay around long enough to worry about that!  ;)

Hi Natasha, Hi all,  :)

I use crumble from a bag from sainsburys I can`t imagine how mushy that would get thawed. I can get away with thawing fruit in the dish, tipping crumble mix on the top and putting it back in the oven. Thats about as easy as it gets.

Adding ginger or cinnamon is always tasty.

Thanks everybody,
Great tips!
I read somewhere that you don't need to thaw fruit, it goes straight in to the oven.   ::)
