I jsu chomped on my first cucumber straight of the vine.It was an gherkin that had got a bit fat ,first one to mature and there were no more of the same size so I pulled it and snacked,it was warm from the sun and very sweet. I have never done that before. It was really good. XX Jeannine
Good grief! My cucmber plants are about 3" high!
Some of mine are just seed leaves in peat pots. I shall go & tell them they all about yours Jeannine & that they better get a move on. :)

Don't be too hard on them it was only one and it was a gherkin .only about 4 inches lon, but very fat. XX Jeannine

What variety is it? when did you sow the seed? what has it cost you to keep the glasshouse heated and lit? Is this the country's most expensive gherkin? ;D

The variety is Cool Breeze, from West Coast Seeds, Catalogue says ...so early it caught us by surprise,Small 4-6 inch uniform dark green cucumbers appear well before any others because they do not need pollination and in our wet springs bees are not out in the rain.There are no male flowers,the plants keep producing all summer on short vines.They have no ridges and very fine spines that rub off easily.Use for pickles or salad.Tolerant to powdery mildew,scab and mosaic.
Heat went off my greenhouse in February just as these germinated. I have shared with a friend who only has a un heated greenhouse and she has small cukes too.
This is the 7th year I have grown them and I have always been delighted with their speed and yield.

I didn't loose any plants. In fact, the greenhouse was empty. It repeatedly blew away when I was using it to protect an early crop of spinach, so I had folded it up and put a brick on top to secure it. But I must have accidently moved the brick because one day the greenhouse was gone.
My cucumbers are still at home in pots. I bring them indoors at night, because I noticed the leaves of Burpless Tasty Green going a bit floppy after a cold night.
My Marketmore cukes are about 12 inches high and went out on the lottie this evening. I am going to try growing them up an arch, one either side. No sign of flowers or fruit yet though.
They have been my most successful cuke so far, as the other types, including Lemon are tiny and not doing much at all.
