Been at new plot all day - soil dry and dusty where all the diggers were parked on it during recent building work plus it's been rotavated. Mess.
Dug in some manure and nicked some compost from old heap at old plot - found that the new tenant had rotavated that! Gaaaaagh! Everything i planted gone!!
I know it's not mine anymore but has the man no soul? I mean if he didn't want all that stuff why has he got an allotment?
Anyhoo - I know i'll get there but the buzz from getting it has kind of ebbed leaving me with the prospect of spending a lot on manure and topsoil to bring plot up to scratch before i can plant anything. To plant up my sweetcorn it got manure. The strawbs got bagged compost.
Flops onto desk with head on arms and calls for a large G&T....
one kick up the wotsit coming your way emmy.sure you will get there in the end, where is your lotty
Hi emmy, sounds like a large g&t would go down v well right now!!!
I'm a total newbie, so i'm sure plenty of others will be along shortly with words of wisdom, but i just wanted to say keep your chin up, and don't give up. You obviously worked wonders on your last plot (grrrrrrr, blasted new owners :-X ) so i'm sure you'll do the same on this one.
Now come on girl, pull yourself together :-* ;D
(Out of interest, why did you have to leave the old plot? x )
Come on Emmy buck up gal, he won't know what he has missed and anyway you would have been sad watching him harvest your stuff you know, have another G&T and see what tomorrow brings. Do you want a bit of my new sweetcorn just come from the US as a pick me up !!! Pm me XX Jeannine
Hey all - Grotbag I'm in Southbourne would you believe!! how weird!! Where in Christchurch is your lottie? Love the fact that your granddaughter is Miya - my daughter is Maya!!
Kitten - see Disaster lost my lottie in The Shed - somewhere!!
Jeannine - you are too lovely. Have sent you pm. x I know I'd have been furious watching him harvest my crops but I didn't want it all murdered! The bleepin bleep bleep.
G&T v. nice. Love the OH - makes a crackin G&T bless him!
Now you are doing a double take double time with double digging, and double planting, and double sowing....... I am sure the crops will taste doubly delicious..... So here is a double kick up the japsy..... one for each cheek. ;D ;D ;D
o dear, its a bit duanting but i think you will just have to put this year down to a false start and get what you can out of it and then bring it up to scratch over the winter. i reckon if you tickle some manure into the soil (preferably after the rain we are due in the next day or so) and then cover in weed fabric (i have some youcan use) and then plant up squashes and runner beans and quick growing stuff just to get it producing then youwill feel a lot better. all the plots are so dry down there at the moment, i know mine certainly is. i cant believe teh guy has rotovated your old plot, what a fool when you had it so nice. dont despair (dispair? ) do what you can this year and at least you have your foot back inthe door and are in a bettter place to negotiate a better plot. i shall come and help you out when i can, you'll be fine. ;)
hi emmy,my site is on somerford, where is your site
Hellooo. Feeling much better about the whole thing today. Everything I'm planting is getting a touch of the good stuff and then weed suppressant. Watering is just impossible otherwise. The soil just bubbles up and turns into mud!
I'm looking forward to all the rain, the manure is dug in awaiting it so hopefully next week it'll be a bit better. I've spoken to the committee about sorting out some topsoil or something. that should take a few weeks for them to discuss!
I just keep thinking at least I have a plot and I'm not on the 2 year waiting list starting again. It's just hard to slow down when I've been on such a roll and so much that needed planting out that is trapped in the mini g/h awaiting decent soil.
Oh and the wonderful irony is that that the idiot thinks he's kept my spuds - but actually he's kept the patch of weeds and couch grass and rotavated the spuds! Arf Arf Arf... 8)
well, emmy, at least you're starting out knowing what to do..it won't take long to catch up..lots of peeps on our site are only just planting loads of things..happy new plotting ;D

Hey emmy, the saying 'The sun always shines on the righteous' springs to mind here ;D
We're very behind all hte others on our site in terms of sowing & planting, but at least you know what you're doing this time around and it won't take you long to get caught up once you get going ;) Good luck with it, keep us all up to date with your progress hun x
Hee hee, I know Manics. Do feel slightly self righteous! ;D
