went to asda today and they are selling 3 sticks of rhubarb for £1.98. thats right £1.98. couldnt believe my eyes. what an absolute ripoff. i think its the car boot for me this weekend
Yes - Morrisons last week had reduced the price fro 1.99 per kg to 1.59 - still expensive - lucky we grow our own
I guess it's because it's been so dry. We've had two delicious pickings from our rhubarb, but it could do with a bit of rain to bring on the next sticks.
£3.30 a Kg at Tesco-90p from me I`ve still got some if anyone is passing ;)
I only paid £3 for a crown. I guess Dick Turpin is now working for the big supermarkets then eh...... ;)
I have 4 crowns so i think i will be down the car boot this time next year!!
Mine are much too spindly to pick but shall resist the temptation to buy & wait till next year.
They were crazy prices last year too.
It seems to be becoming a luxury food (but not in our household).
If only my dear old granny had known all those sticks she gave away were such posh nosh......
Ah, yes, being given an egg-cup of sugar and told to go out and pull up a stick of rhubarb ("don't forget to put the leaf on the compost!"), then dunking the end of the stick in the sugar and crunching one sweet-and-sour mouthful after another.
What a way to spoil a grandson! ::)
My other granny tried to stop me eating all the strawberries by making me eat two punnets one day. Ha, ha, failed miserably!
