Will I get more stalks by harvesting several times or shall I leave them to get one large harvest for freezing?
If you have new plants do not harvest the first year to allow the crowns to mature. Older plants I pick 1 stork from each crown so getting contuning production ( I have 6 Plants). Best Rhubarb towards to end of this month after wards it can get stringy.
Carrying on from that then, I had a massive rhubarb plant and dug it up in February. It had some new shoots on it so I planted it. Its getting alot of new growth on it but should I treat it as a new plant or should I start picking it. (I inherited the rhubarb on the allotment I took over and it was in the wrong place so needed to come out.)
Depends how strongly it's growing. February's a bit late; the year I moved mine, I had to minimise picking because of this. We still had some though.
Silly question Powerspade!!! But when you say don't harvest if new plant do you mean just leave plant completely??? I've only got two strong stalks, I keep getting little ones underneath but they don't survive-just go soggy and die. As you can tell this is all new to me so any advice welcome :D
