Title: little idea
Post by: Fingle.... on May 26, 2004, 13:35:41
Ive got clay soil in piles at the sides of my lottie, and areas still to dig.

Ive got this crazy plan that a supermarket trolley could be used to seive weed roots and big stones from the soil.

Anyone tried it ?
???

Can't say I have....but wouldn't the holes be too big, just letting all the roots through? Now a shopping basket might be a better bet  ;D

yes i thought about that but it would break your back using that all day
With a trolley you just shovel it in and rake it thru....reckon it would stop couch grass etc getting thru en-masse

Haven't tried it -but I did see a picture of Bob F. (praised be his name  :o) using a grating on top of a wheel barrow, might be the best of both worlds. Or you could line your shopping trolley with some old chicken wire to get a finer sieve.

Fingle, I can highly recommend the  Eric Marsh's Patent Riddler.  Copied by my other half( he's a good'n)  showen below in construction and in use as a riddle on raised bed number 3 at the lottie.  It is easy to make and to use.  Once it is in position all you do is throw the soil at it and voila....soil one side......stones..weeds and any other c**p on the other.  Just remember to save the little wormies and keep them on the nice soily side. ;D
