Has anyone seen this new magazine, which hit the shelf last week? It's fully enclosed in a wrapper so you can't see what you're getting, but it does include 10 free packets of Thompson & Morgan seeds, plant labels & pencil and a free DVD. However, at £8.99 ( :o) , I would like to see what I get for my money before buying.
I suspect that it's aimed at 'newbies' and might be OK as a one off to get you started, but magazines are usually published on a regular basis - would anyone really pay this much on even a quarterly basis? You can buy a really good book and numerous packets of seeds from Aldis/Morrisons etc. for a similar amount.
Blimey, £8.99! ::)
Saw this on a recent thread but didn't realise it cost that much!
I am a relative newbie, but wouldn't pay that!
I had a quick look at it today and did baulk at the price but I have been buying about 3 magazines a month for the last couple of months and they are between £2.95 and £3.95 so I have already spent more than that so I might buy this one and nothing else this month as I have pretty much all the general info I need.
If I do get it I will let you know :)
This one-off mag is from the people who do the glossy Grow Your Own. It is aimed more at those who'd like to start but don't know a lot. It seems overpriced for what it is. There have been comments on the GYO forums - saying, this is full of adverts etc. Wow, seeds - well, tomatoes included - bit on the late side to sow? Also, the dvd - they complained it was amateurish - also the "Feb" edition which is no good if you are in the middle of spring. I'd save your money if I were you - unless perhaps you were going to add all of those seeds to your shopping list at the end of the season?
You can buy a decent allotment book for that price! Tons of choices on the internet - books for beginners to experts. If it was me: I would buy a book. It will last longer and will have loads more in it along with plenty of tips too. DVDs won't have everything in you want. Best asking your lottie neighbours I would of thought.
i nearley bought this one!! 1st time out driving and shopping on my own for 6 weeks so retail therapy was making me a bit light headed then i just happened to glance at the price expecting it to be £3 to £4 well i wasn,t that lightheaded
marg
Dont bother better to go to local library and see what is there, thats what I did and then I bought what I needed after seeing them for free
